Despite not having the Google Play Store, the slew of apps I can find right now on my Fire TV is really appealing. This article says the new OS will be web focused. In fact, specifically React JS. Android can already do that, plus a lot more native development choices. So I guess this will lead to less app choices. Shame.

I have an app that alters the colours of my TV at night. I can’t imagine that’ll be possible in a web based OS.

I don’t have adblock on my work computer. I don’t want it interfering with webdev and I’ve found it to do so in the past. But it’s interesting, the dichotomy between sites I use as development resources vs the rest of the web. My phone and home computer are unbearable without adblock, but on my work computer, the ads are hardly noticeable really.

There’s over 30 Mexican restaurant results for my city at 1% the population of Tokyo. Sounds like it’s pretty lacking to me

I’m not surprised at the results tbh. Interesting to see the UK actually abstained, rather than sided with Israel and the US like usual though.

But I also think your data is not very beautiful, I can barely make out the key in those few pixels.

!random ?

Also, can I see the screenshot?

Wouldn’t it be obvious that it’s not a dog though. You don’t need to see the image to know it’s not gonna be a dog, given the setup

Nice use of the ambiguity of the present perfect continuous tense

Waterfox is a version of Firefox that is modified for tighter privacy, with support for Chrome and Opera extensions too.

You used to be able to use the Chrome Store Foxified addon to allow you to install Chrome extensions in regular Firefox, however it looks to be broken now and no longer in the Firefox addon store.

With a little knowledge, it’s not very hard to make your own messaging app and share it with those you know. And there’s plenty projects online that give you what you need without having to write the code yourself. Alternatively, there’s just plenty dark web and under the radar apps already that won’t bend to this ruling.

What it is, though, is very inconvenient and annoying to do so.

But if you’re an actual criminal, then there is this solution here that can never be subject to this ruling.

So what this clearly means is that the EU will violate the privacy of all the everyday people that don’t handle that inconvenience, pushing the serious criminals to dark channels.

It’s a silly nitpick anyway. The monster, Adam, calls the doctor, Victor Frankenstein, his father. Surnames are inherited, thus they are both Frankensteins.

Yeah, but I’m happy with that. Let’s me take back control of when I’m tired. I tried quitting caffeine for months and I don’t like it; I was tired when I wanted to be awake and wide awake when I needed to sleep. The predictable crash at the end of the day is pretty useful when timed right.

There’s a bunch of words spelt annoyingly because those bastard scholars decided they’d like to incorporate the historic roots of words, rather than the reality of words, in their spelling.

That’s just the bar for gesture navigation, instead of those three buttons at the bottom. It’s available in settings of Android 10 and above

This idiom confused me for the longest time, because I use “have” and “eat” very interchangeably. “Are you going to have dinner?” etc. I didn’t see that, rather, they meant “have” as a synonym for “keep”.

And yeah, it’s definitely backwards. “Have” doesn’t suggest “will have”, it’s a present term only. I have a cake, can I eat it? Yes. Switching the order makes more sense. Furthermore, I think “keep” at least suggests long term.

I propose “You can’t eat your cake and keep it too”

Yet still, who ever eats a whole cake? I definitely keep some for later.

Top image is the little girl from the film “Chucky” (Alice Pierce), holding the Chucky doll.

Bottom image is Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

The joke is that the bottom people look like grown up versions of the top ones. Blond girl to woman, odd looking ginger boy doll to man.

From eza’s readme, on why it’s better than ls:

It uses colours to distinguish file types and metadata. It knows about symlinks, extended attributes, and Git

A. If I move a large hula hoop over your body, you don’t go flying out the other side. Portals are just large hula hoops with either side in different places.

I didn’t know what picture to use, so I didn’t bother. My picture on other platforms is my face, but I’m not going to use that here.

Schools teach their lessons in english.

When you have to pick a language to teach in, isn’t this the best language to teach in though, in a predominantly English speaking society?

I don’t think segregating classes into separate language-based ones would be a good idea. That leaves kids not speaking English at home nor at school in an even bigger disadvantage in terms of learning English and we need we need kids of all different backgrounds mixing together so that they may understand and accept one another.

guy,
@guy@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a good solution, yes.

Though good luck convincing governments, that continue to cut funding for important social programs like these, to bother supporting minorities in schools.

I’m from the UK, we are the natives here.

Though, I would agree in the UK when it comes to other native languages under threat, like Scottish Gaelic and Welsh.

However, I still think in any English speaking country, proficient English is the most important thing a child can learn in order to thrive in modern society. And separating children of different languages is not a good thing, it only makes racism worse. Instead, we should focus on lessons and programs that teach other native languages, to preserve them, and also teach English to those that don’t speak it at home.

Teaching and preservation programs have worked well for Welsh and the language is growing once again.

I'm looking for an Add-on Manager. I have way too many addons. I enable many of them for development, disable them afterwards. I can't search Installed Addons. What do? (i.ibb.co)

I am in a bit of a pickle. I'm a developer, and I also use some crypto social media, and I also like downloading media sometimes, I do a lot of stuff. I modify CSS, I script & hack the web, yadda yadda. Basically what this means is I ended up with like 50 addons I juggle-enable-disable all the time. This is extremely frustrating...

You could use multiple profiles with Firefox Sync logged into the same account inside each profile, but turn off addon syncing?
