In my opinion, yes. I am a long-time fan of the book series and have enjoyed the first season of the show. There are differences, as there always are with adaptations and especially an adaptation of this scope. Just as with all adaptations with existing fandoms, some fans are bitter about it.

This got recommended to me the other day. Interesting, but damn was there a lot of filler in this script. I get that he’s trying to get across how these spaces feel to him, but like… it’s a long stairway dude.

Same, long-time user of forums. Lamented the relative death of the independent forum, and very happy to be here for a possible return of sorts.

Where I am from, we don’t make these distinctions on the color of a person.

Not everybody is from wherever you're from. There's a chart up there for that, too.

You seem to go out of your way to read and response to everything in the most argumentative way possible. Basically every comment I see from you is this way. In case you are not aware, people are not obligated to talk to you. Please discover a new way to interact with people.

I never engage with YouTube Shorts, so I'm mostly just skipping right past those. While I tried out YouTube Music after Google Play Music got shut down, I ultimately did not enjoy it as a service and started using Pandora instead. With that said, I still occasionally see recommendations of playlists on YouTube due to my YouTube Music data. It's marginally annoying.

All of this to say, it would probably bother me more if they were all services that I interacted with on a regular basis.

Proton’s encrypted password manager is now available to everyone. - The Verge (www.theverge.com)

After rolling out its password manager to a limited number of users in April, Proton has finally released the service to the general public. The tool, called Proton Pass, uses end-to-end encryption to keep your usernames and passwords away from third parties, including Proton itself. It also lets you create and store randomly...

From Gamespot:

The two have worked together to optimize Starfield on Xbox and PC with Ryzen 7000 Series processors and Radeon 7000 Series graphics. Producer Todd Howard mentions that AMD engineers have been working with Bethesda on Starfield's codebase to deliver SSR2 image processing and upscaling.

"These optimizations will both accelerate performance and enhance the quality of your gameplay using highly multithreaded code, that both Xbox and PC players will get to take advantage of," explains AMD SVP Jack Huynh in a video announcement.

Is lemmy.ml partially blocking /kbin instances?

A post on kbinMeta states that “Lemmy.ml is blocking all inbound ActivityPub requests from /kbin instances.” More details here, but the theory is that – rather than defederating – lemmy.ml returns a 403 ‘access denied’ message in response to any inbound requests from a user agent with “kbinBot” in the string....

Great lists already. I'll add What Remains of Edith Finch

What mobile app is this? It appears that the app developer has specified a minimum supported version which is newer than the current version of Lemmy that Beehaw uses.

Win + Shift + Left / Right Arrow will shift a window from one monitor to the other. Should have known that keyboard shortcut a lot longer than I have.

Yeah it's quickly become one of my most frequently used keyboard shortcuts, and I've used it for exactly that purpose as well.

Why do Mastodon posts don't get many likes? (feddit.nl)

When I look at Mastodon posts, I see a decent amount of replies and boosts for popular posts, but not very many stars (see example image). I assumed a star is the same as a like, but I feel not a lot of people star a post, whereas I did see a lot of hearts/likes on Twitter posts. Are they not equivalent?

Favorites (likes, stars, whatever) don't Federate, so the only favorites that your instance shows are the ones it knows about, being the favorites that are local.

When I view that same post from my instance I also see 0 favorites. But when I view it on mastodon.social there are 366.

It's using the custom emoji on the user's instance, then just putting the :code: for the emoji in their display name. Like on my Mastodon account my display name is entered as hybrid havoc :1m: :rm:

:1m: and :rm: are custom emojis I have setup on the instance.

after hearing Starfield might be exclusive to PlayStation

Kinda nice to have it confirmed I guess. I do think she fits the role physically, and I have a lot of faith in the show's casting. I look forward to meeting Lanfear on the show.

And the practice in question here is... A statement we haven't seen?

The FTC defines anticompetitive practices as:

Anticompetitive practices include activities like price fixing, group boycotts, and exclusionary exclusive dealing contracts or trade association rules, and are generally grouped into two types:

  • agreements between competitors, also referred to as horizontal conduct
  • monopolization, also referred to as single firm conduct

I don't think you can rightly say that making a statement is itself worthy of being called monopolization, even if we actually knew what was said.

That's literally all the article is. Matt Booty said something that some people suing Microsoft want to claim is indicative of their intentions with regards to the Activision deal, which at the time the thing was said was still several years in the future.
