The animation on that big cat just now looked like it was out of Beast Wars.

If you're a flame that still burns, where are your pyrotechnics on stage? Or did the other performances use them all up?

That was quite good. I was afraid the first performance of a song in an Australian aboriginal language could fall into the trap of being very cliche, but that was a good blend of both the modern and the traditional.

Well, I knew it couldn't last forever. The live audience seems to be enjoying it, but I think this one is a no from me. It's just.... average.

They weren't kidding when they said these twins had Jedward vibes. If you'd only played the music and told me this was a new song from Jedward, I don't think I would've doubted you for a moment.

A returning artist from Moldova? With a Violin? The drinking games strike again!

You'd think someone as obviously geeky as Windows95man would know better than to cross the streams.

For all the joking around with strategically placed objects.... he is wearing a flesh coloured g-string, right?

If Weird Al had a denim fetish.

Just how many flesh coloured outfits are we going to get this year?

If I had a dollar for every song about Witchcraft in Eurovision this year, I'd have (at least) two dollars. Which isn't much, but it is a little weird it's happened more than once.

So far, it seems like the Big 5 are all putting in a decent effort. Germany and the UK clearly looking to improve on their bottom of the table performances from last year.

Kind of wish would put subtitles even on the songs in English. It's not an issue of accents, but just that it can be hard to hear the artists over the music and the audience sometimes.

These Terri Scheer ads for Landlord Insurance on SBS on Demand are very on the nose. Don't know why they'd think Eurovision watchers are the right target audience for these.

....okay, that was certainly a catchy song from Croatia, but I don't get how the animals in the background connected to the song. Especially the dancing cats.

White outfit, giant shoulders, costume change, fireworks. Our livers aren't going to be able to keep up with the drinking games at this rate.

How is this song from Poland the first "power shoulder"? Did you miss the Pauldron on Ukraine?

....having said that, these were certainly some World of Warcraft worthy shoulder pads.

I'm not sure if that shuddering camera work was intentional or not, but it was certainly distracting.

Is it just me, or does the crowd seem to be having a positive reaction to a song from the UK? What kind of demonic sacrifice did Ireland perform just now? Surely the UK is only allowed one good performance a decade?

Move over Lordi, it seems Eurovision has a new demon queen after tonight.

This is less Wednesday Adams and more Queen Mab by way of Stephen King's It.

We're only on the third song, and we've already had two sung in languages other than English. A good omen for the rest of the night, hopefully.

@joannaholman This Semi Final is already peak Eurovision. Here's hoping it continues at the same level.

liampomfret,
@liampomfret@mastodon.social avatar

@joannaholman Surely if Mastodon sent an entry, it'd be Linuxman rather than Windows95man. ;)

Serbia's entry tonight is apparently the moody version of the little mermaid.
