I am happy to share this: Eter @eter was mentioned in this article about advantage of radio over Spotify published by Lifehacker. https://lifehacker.com/entertainment/the-radio-is-still-better-than-the-spotify-algorithm

Eter 2.1 (@eter) is out! New version of Eter for macOS and iOS brings the long awaited feature: fav. stations list reorder. Eter 2.1 for macOS adds marquee for status and info bar. No more truncated titles of the tunes.

Eter in App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/eter-streaming-internet-radio/id1523221566

Eter is also available in Setapp.

On Twitter charging a fee for new users:

"When a new user signs up, the user will need to pay the fee, or wait for three months to be able to engage on the network"

This is supposed to prevent bots/spam, but won't spambotters either pay or just sign up and wait the 3 months?

At best, this strategy is a 3-month speed bump, a time delay. Am I missing something? 🤔

@davemark @peternlewis Well, there was a try that failed - App.net. IMO they were charging users too much, but Twitter could learn from them and from their failure at that time.
Meanwhile... we are still Twitter castaways on the Fediverse islands.

@mackozer@mastodon.social avatar

@davemark @peternlewis yeah, me too. However some part of the old good Twitter vibe has been ruined for me on time of take over that service by "Mr Henry Ford impersonator" and the war next door that I see with my bare eyes (I am based in Poland and go there with humanitarian aid from time to time). I found myself less engaged and posting less than before.

! No cycling to start the day, as my son has been banned from the after-school club and some other activities, and his class went on a school trip…😩 But I will find a way, even if I was to go in the middle of the night…🤡

Stumbled on the C64 book that came with mine circa 1986. I didn’t understand much of it back then but I remember fondly trying to. It wasn’t easy when nobody around you knew anything to help.

Luckily I had another basic programming book (Bordeaux cover) which had cool examples to type in.

In retrospect I always thought it was a lucky strike to get a used computer for Xmas because it came with lots of diskettes and books.

@santiago about year 1985 I was attending Commodore 64 programming course in Simon's BASIC. It was more versatile in terms of graphics and sound compared to C64 built-in BASIC.

Here is the first brand new feature of Eter 2.0 - history of played songs. If your favorite radio stations provide meta data then songs are not only recognised but also saved into history list. You can always check what song you listened to, copy title and artist name or open given tune in Apple Music (we are working on adding Spotify too). You can also delete songs from the list if you wish. This feature is available for both, Eter for iOS and macOS.

@ssamulczyk No open beta tests this time, since the release is very soon :) Version for Apple TV is not going anywhere, and we think about its future development too. So stay in tune :)

Today is World Radio Day, and the best way to listen to it is on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV or Apple Watch in the Eter application that I created. Eter is now being developed by our team at Apparent Software. The new version 2.0 is almost ready and should be available soon! https://apps.apple.com/app/eter-streaming-internet-radio/id1523221566

@phranck @jacobgorban I guess if one has such receiver still operable (what about the tubes for this?) today one can only listen mostly to white noise and military numerical radio stations. I don't know if there are any LF/LW and AM stations left. I remember the one my granny used to have. It needed roughly 2 - 3 minutes to warm up the tubes. And all the city names on the scale... indeed it was something magical with it.

What's wrong with Apple Music? Recently I am experiencing a lot of „not available" messages for song or entire albums I have been listening for months or years.

mackozer,
@mackozer@mastodon.social avatar

@joy yeah, and currently almost all music both in my library or what I try to listen is not available. First I was thinking it's a problem with region... and starte to think about switching to Spotify, but apparently is a wider issue.
Not to mention recent live album of my death metal band has been „processed” by Apple Music for over two weeks now, while it appeared on Spotify, Deezer and other services almost instantly.

I have to vent. I just don’t understand why the world isn’t helping Ukraine much more. We just watch this stuff happening. Every day. And do almost nothing. We just watch like it’s a normal thing. On some days it drives me crazy and makes me so angry.

Even russians living in Switzerland and europe. Most of them don’t give a shit and just say nothing. They don’t condemn the actions of their country. I don’t get it. Are they just scared? Or assholes? I don’t know.

mackozer,
@mackozer@mastodon.social avatar

@sandropennisi Here in PL we do know what "Russian World" means. It isn’t just one state attacked another. Russia has been like this for centuries, no matter it was under tzars, Soviet Union, or under Putin. Before Ukraine there was Georgia (nobody cared), and before, Chechenia, Afghanistan, Czechoslovakia, Hungary... Not to mention Soviet Union (Russia) was Nazi German ally in 1939 and attacked Poland.
In 1919-20 Soviet Russia invaded Poland. and before... over 100 years of occupation.

mackozer,
@mackozer@mastodon.social avatar

@sandropennisi So here in PL we perfectly know what Russians are capable of and we do our best to help Ukrainians. My family has been hosting a family from Mykolaiv since June 2022. They live with us and they are now our new relatives, a family.
I also hosted in my second apartment a family of my friend from Kyiv.
On 26 Feb 22 I was at the PL/UK border with thousands of other Poles to pick up refugees, women and children and bring them to our homes or to refugee centres in big cities.

mackozer,
@mackozer@mastodon.social avatar

@santiago @sandropennisi yes, unfortunately. I think the West helps Ukraine only as much as not to fall, and to keep this war long enough to make Russia loose like in Afghanistan (or USA in Vietnam), but the cost of this is paid by Ukrainians.

mackozer,
@mackozer@mastodon.social avatar

@santiago @sandropennisi not to this extent as Soviet Russia. Stalin wanted partition of Poland and annihilation of Polish state and its elites (Katyn massacre and other mass execution of Polish inteligentia). Chemberlain was an example of typical British imperial shortsightedness and just didn’t care about Poland.

mackozer,
@mackozer@mastodon.social avatar

@santiago @sandropennisi It was both I guess. In fact National Socialism and Communism are pretty similar in terms of brutal force and the level of genocide they committed, except communist Russia was killing all people no matter of their racial, religious and national identity. Both Nazi Germany and Soviet Union wanted Poland and Polish nation case to exist.

mackozer,
@mackozer@mastodon.social avatar

@santiago @sandropennisi The Famine in Ukraine - Holodomor - caused by Soviet Union is officially recognised as genocide by many states, as an action to decimate Ukrainian population and wipe out its culture.
