Just spent ... far too long digging into NY, VT, and NH laws defining the hoops required to get gender affirming care.

NY's hypocrisy can fuck itself. NH is going all-in on the fascism. VT isā€¦ meh.

ALL of them (probably all states) have laws assuming trans people are incapable of making the same decisions about their bodies that CIS people can and need to be approved by mental health professionals. They also require adherence to the gender binary to be trans enough to be approved.

Some procedures that CIS people can (and do) get without mental health approval or requirement to live via a specific "gender role" for 12 months first:

  • breast reduction / removal
  • breast augmentation
  • orchiectomy
  • vaginoplasty
  • phalloplasty
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy (for kidsā€” & adults)

ā€” many states recently: What's that, you're a CIS kid who has a medical need for HRT or puberty blockers? Tough shit. Suffer.

To add to the hypocrisy: if a trans person isnā€™t mentally ā€œfitā€ they canā€™t get an orchiectomy or HRT, but if a CIS man is mentally fucked up enough to be a rapist they force them to have them.

So: CIS people can have them if they want them AND if they donā€™t AND if theyā€™re mentally stable OR mentally fucked.

We can only have them of we adhere to gender norms for a year and have two people say weā€™re trans enough and mentally stable

Finished up my leg laser just now! 6 session on upper and lower legs. Excited to have one less appointment going. I think maybe next summer Iā€™ll want to do another few sessions on upper legs just to finish it off, but Iā€™m really happy with the results

people. I need your help.

I have an angled cut I want to make on a 3 axis CNC. Presumably I just clamp the object to cut on an angled wedge, BUT literally every video I've found about how to CNC starts out with the assumption of a horizontal top plane.

Can any of you point me to resources about how to handle the process of instructing the CNC to make these cuts on an angled workpiece?

Printing a "new and improved" switch cover for the ambulance šŸš‘. Last version had the wrong switch exposed for "beep" (backup warning). I've added labels & chamfered holes now too. "fan" is for the Heat / AC system in the rear compartment.

The unlabeled hole on the left is for the "Sequence Load Manager" switch, which I'd cover if i could, but it has a big old vertical toggle thing on it for no obvious reason & I don't care enough to track down & install a replacement switch.

The iPad makes Apple about as much money as the Mac does and sells more than twice the number of units. I'm pretty sure in Apple's opinion, there is no problem with the iPad.

I fail to see why I would want to run Xcode on my iPad. I don't use my iPad for a lot, but when I do I don't feel like it can't do anything I want it to.

In Swift, OSLog's Logger struct isn't Sendable, apparently? That seems weird. I have a logger instance on my actor, but if I try to use it in one of my nonisolated functions I get a warning when strict concurrency mode is enabled because Logger isn't Sendable. I could shut this up using @preconcurrency import OSLog but is that... I dunno... legit?

@bigzaphod things like this are what keep me from adopting swift. After so many years of Perl and Ruby and Lisp / Scheme being all ā€œsure. Go for it.ā€ The idea of fighting with the language how about so many little surprise things that someone randomly restricted either intentionally or without considerationā€¦ it just sounds exhausting. I donā€™t have the spoons.

I understand the value that many of those restrictions provide, but stillā€¦

@bigzaphod @dachary keeps describing the weird walls she keeps hitting and i'm like "WTF?" because some of them are just šŸ¤Æ . Unfortunately me going "wtf" makes her imposter syndrome kick in, despite the fact that she's really good & has done all the research to know for a fact that it's not just her.

What must it be like for NEW developers? They must constantly feel like they're stupid / too newb, when no, the language just drinks stupid-juice from time to time.

@bigzaphod @dachary I DESPERATELY want there to be a way to code for macOS and / or iOS that DOESN'T involve Swift (or Obj-c) but ALSO allows me to create native UIs.

I don't know if i took my pills today, and the pill box was in a slightly wonky almost empty state because i forgot to take some evening pills last Wednesday. Double dosing on hormones would probably be ok, but double dosing on my ADHD meds? Uh... šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø i dunno. Probably ok?

I have some slightly lower dose pills from when my script was lower. Maybe i take pills but use the lower dose ADHD med in case I've already taken it?

@movation i use this thing to keep track. It usually works well, but my forgetting sometimes throw things off when the week wraps around. I think it would be problematic because of the forgetting to.ļæ¼

I donā€™t know if I need to cull the people Iā€™m following or make more lists so I can select a subset of toots to view or what. But I just canā€™t keep up with my feed anymore. Gotta figure out how to manage that.

Was pondering AAVE's "ax" instead of "ask" & how much it annoys ignorant white folk who don't get that AAVE is a full-on dialect not lazy speech. I think maybe it's so annoying because it's not just a word transposition or weird conjugation but a sound transposition of a common word.

Because itā€™s bo longer supported Iā€™m betting no-one is assigned, which means only system admins and C-levels with ego based access levels could look if they wanted to
