ugh, I’m shopping for a new macOS mail client, I need:

  • multiple fastmail / imap / gmail accounts
  • multiple aliases per account
  • modifier-less keyboard commands
  • must NOT use a third-party server for ANYTHING (rules out Spark)
  • must have an option to disable remote images
  • sort/view by sender & thread
  • I have a very high bar for subscription fees; Edison/Canary/Newton don’t cut it

I’ve been doing email since 1994, my favorite clients have been Claris Em@iler, Mutt, Spark, & Sparrow

It apparently went in my medical history that I “am not tech-savvy” apparently because I said I would prefer not to use mychart,

this is part of a legal record now

and it’s like, no, I’m very tech-savvy and that’s why I would prefer not to use mychart

For the first time in many years, I feel like I’m both past the burnout I had accumulated and not in a situation where I’ll accumulate more

My burnouts have come from

  • employer funding running out / parent co insolvency
  • lack of recognition for doing the necessary thankless work that prevented something bad happening
  • work going towards sociopolitical ends I oppose
  • subpar compensation
  • not getting to tackle the problems I was hired for
  • not making time to work on things important to me

Me, a year ago: clickops in AWS is both horrible to use and doesn’t align with my values. I know, I’ll use terraform!

Me, after spending an hour trying to deal with updating things because of version updates: Now I’ve got … let’s see… at least a dozen problems

javascript people: does anyone have a date/time library they prefer for heavy lifting? I’ve gotten frustrated enough with Luxon (successor to Moment) to move on

I need to be able to do some heavy lifting with this, almost but not quite on the scale of what joda-time / java 8’s time library allows. I don’t need custom chronologies or calendars, but do need a library that doesn’t constantly patronize me by thinking it knows more about my use cases than I do

has anyone ever recorded an audiobook before? Have any tips for someone considering doing it for the first time?

My kid loves audiobooks but one of their favorite books isn’t available that way, and they have a birthday coming up, so I’m considering making one for them

I’ve been clawing my way out of burnout the last two years, figuring out what a sustainable career could look like for me

It’s no coincidence that this time has also coincided with finally getting an ADHD diagnosis & working to finally heal childhood traumas so ingrained they were invisible

As the main income earner for my family, I can’t just up & quit tech, even though I’d like to

I would LOVE to hear people’s similar stories & talk to people on similar paths, I think it would be helpful rn

TIL that gains from selling stock bought under an Employee Stock Purchase Plan apparently count as “wages” and not “capital gains” because ESPP stock was … paid for with wages?

if only edgeComputing / worker / “serverless” processes were reusable across cloud providers. Like there was some kind of interface that was common between them all as a gateway between the edge CDN server and other resources

What could we call such a thing?

Common Gateway Interface? nah, that would never work

in personal late-diagnosis comorbidity news, I've have a diagnosis for , aka "Persistent Depressive Disorder”

> As dysthymia is a chronic disorder, those with the condition may experience symptoms for many years before it is diagnosed, if diagnosis occurs at all. As a result, they may believe that depression is a part of their character, so they may not even discuss their symptoms with doctors, family members or friends.

I think this is going to be as big as the ADHD diagnosis

Our 4 month old kitten went into respiratory shock today after a few days of declining health; apparently the root cause is FIP which has a poor prognosis

The vet warned us that there are black market medications and all sorts of scammers who prey in on hope for a cure

When my partner searched for FIP on google the entire first page was such scams

Anyway, goodbye Luna, you are a sweet kitty. we wish we could have gotten to know you longer and we’re grateful for the time we had

@MonaApp have you been hearing reports of people not getting full API data from their servers with your app in the past few days? I’m only seeing about 1/2 my timeline content and notifications, Ivory & the web interfaces seem to show everything

bitten by the lack of a good “search my timeline from the last month or so” here, I mean, I get it, it’s a hard problem, but this is perhaps the only thing that could get me running my own instance or server software
