A fucking wrong sneeze on Russian soil is enough for a nuclear threat. If he’s going to do it, we can’t do shit about it anyway, because he’s going to use all excuses left in the book. He’s going to spin some narrative and either Russians will actually grow a spine and refuse the order - or won’t.

The only thing we can hope is, that they didn’t change the plutonium in the warheads so they are all duds.

I disagree.

1. Technology is the only option besides euthanasia or actually killing people in a regular basis - and I doubt very much we’d like any of the latter options.
2. Technology doesn’t have to progress at any rate - we already have the technology to build self sufficient stations. It’s just very expensive.
3. Being limited to the solar system isn’t an issue, because the issue is fundamentally that the planet can’t sustain this many people without a lot of help. Meaning, a few 100k is enough to use the technology on planet earth as well.

Apart from that: The planet is and will be habitable for quite some time - but we’re going back to square one and the question will be: Euthanasia or outright killing those that have no say.

Even then: ICE cars with synthetic, co2 neutral fuel are even better, than new EVs. And then there’s the argument, that a hunk of aluminium with pistons is “cheaper” (in terms of ecological impact) than lithium. Because the EV also needs aluminium, the production of aluminium is going to go down the route of co2 neutral anyway. So a mix of both things and especially EVs with smaller batteries makes a lot more sense…(which has also been proven with various studies, but who gives two flying things about that these days)

If you’re going to include the environmental impacts of the one-time lithium extraction (which are usually exaggerated anyway), you must also include the decades of environmental impact of petroleum exploration and extraction.

And that’s where your argument falls flat, because we are not talking about the past, we’re talking about the future and making it a better one. EVs are a part of that future, but not “the only” thing in that future.

You don’t get to count just the cost of burning the fuel either. You must include the of searching for new deposits, setting up extraction infrastructure, infrastructure for logistics for shipping all the raw then refined goods, and possibly even the costs and geopolitical impacts of war for securing petroleum interests globally.

You missed the point completely.

In fairness, I would also include the cost for electricity generation as a cost for BEVs for an apples-to-apples comparison. Electricity generation (transmission and distribution) will vary widely but we have these metrics for the USA at least. In extreme cases, there are BEVs charged with rooftop solar, which would SERIOUSLY undermine your argument about ICE vehicles being a better ecological choice.

No - they wouldn’t, for the simple fact, that zero co2 stays zero co2. They can be on par with a small battery, but everything above 60 kWh needs more than 15 tonnes of co2 to be even produced, making the rucksack impossible to get rid off. A current Golf needs around 9t of Co2 to be produced, a current ID.3 needs 14t

So if both cars are “fueld” with energy that has zero co2 emissions, the ID.3 keeps it’s 5 tonnes deficit.

It is in Sweden, Finland, California, Italy and now Germany. (Although in a different form, called HVO, which is Diesel from garbage (even plastic) and needs roughly 1,5 kWh per Liter)

The “waste” is irrelevant, if it’s made from power that could not have been used anyway, because it was made in a remote part of the world. We’re still a long, long way away from a global power grid. That power would have to be converted anyway - and we do have all the infrastructure ready to go for that liquid stuff.

This is going to be a serious issue in the future - either society changes and these things are going to be accepted or these kind of generating ai models have to be banned. But that’s still not going to be a “security” against it…

I also think we have to come up with digital watermarks that are easy to use…

Doesn’t change the fact, that Hungary or at least the politicians have to actually disprove the suggestions, Orban wants a dictatorship - because pretty much all he talks about is exactly that in one form or the other.

Summoning the Ambassador and calling the accusations “lies” doesn’t do shit in terms of disproving it.

So when ever he seems others struggling, he will add oil to the fire to make them more miserable. He can not stand how every other country around him progressed and grew and was successful, but he was not able to because of his bad leadership. He will drag down everyone around him, so nobody can see how low he is. It is a distraction at this point. If he can not be a successful and loved leader, nobody should. The russian way to deal with complexes. And Trump is the same. They love destroying things if they can not get praise for their low efforts.

Sadly, that counts for a lot of Russians as well. I’ve grown up with Russians, that got out in the very early 90s. They where probably the most lovable people I knew. Extremely friendly, very open and fair.

Nowadays, most Russians that come out of Russia are not that. They do exactly what you describe. To everything and everyone.

Probably not exactly what you are looking for, but these are my personal go to examples for hilarious laws in good ol’ Schermany…

• Per law, it’s forbidden to detonate a nuclear weapon. It’s at least 5 years in Prison.
• According to state law in Hesse, burglars could still be sentenced to death until 2018, but since this was already prohibited by federal law, the law was no longer applied for a long time. It has since been abolished, but it’s still funny.
• Driving blind is forbidden.
• You’re allowed to drive naked - getting out of the car however requires you to be clothed.
• If you fall asleep at work and injure yourself as a result, for example because you fell off a chair, it’s considered to be an accident at work and the insurance is liable.
• In North Rhine-Westphalia, the following applies: If a civil servant dies while travelling on business, the business trip is deemed to have ended.

It is. And I personally commend Google for this - they are pretty much the last manufacturer to truly give your the freedom, without crippling the device to hell and back. Sony and Samsung cripple the cameras when you unlock the boot loader, nearly all Chinese manufacturers don’t even give you the choice, Xiaomi has a “wait list”.

Say what you want about Google - they still aren’t as terrible as others.

I disagree with that. Yes, they enable it, but you can turn (nearly) everything off in the settings and with a few ground rules things are quite good.

Take TikTok, Meta or something like that…you can’t turn off most of the data harvesting and profiling.

That’s however not a good comparison because you still have a physical “way” of feeling where you are shifting to. I never had an issue with shifters that return to neutral, even in very high stress situations.

Touch controls are however a very different thing, because you have absolutely no indication if you actually shifted or not.

In fact, Ive had various cars now with return to neutral shifters - the new Mazda CX-60/70/80/90 don’t have this and I happend to shift in neutral, simply resting my hand on the shifter…

Smaller corporations have it easier, IF they took IT Security serious. For the simple fact, that there are just a lot less entry points and way less whack amole playing.

And Microsoft never took security as serious as they should have.

Edith: And I highly doubt, we’ll see a substantial change on Microsoft’s side. 1.: There’s less Money to be made. 2.: In some ways, their hands are tied because of the still ongoing Patriot Act/USA Freedom Act (which is a bullshit name) or rather the safe harbor stuff.
