Why do people install 32-bit Windows on 64-bit hardware?

While back someone was asking me about 32-bit Windows builds for an open source game. We only provide 64-bit builds but I asked them if they really actually were on a 32-bit system. They insisted so I told them to open their system info page.

"32-bit operating system, x64-based processor"

Well damn. I didn't ask if it was like that from the OEM or if they had done this themselves but I just linked to the MCT and told them to reinstall.

Damn, my last posts have just been ​:gaythoughts:​ and compilers. Anyways, news about my compiler! Slowly getting close to the finish line which is v1.0 of the language but it's gonna take a while still. Due to it growing in complexity over time, ill need better expressions, automatic typecasting to expected type in the expression and a symbol table, etc. ill also likely redo some layout parts of my bytecode and will make the assembler very flexible to account for future changes. Thinking of making some sort of compiler infrastructure that allows supporting other languages without writing a whole new compiler. Yeah, people could and should use LLVM or the likes but selfrolling your own stuff is fun

Wondering how to handle fragmentation when dealing with my symbol table's linked list

@Reiddragon It feels kinda like a stack because the local variables are always at the end and they will get removed before any global ones are created which is why I search the symbol table backwards from the most recently added

Maybe instead of going through this insanity, how do you people recommend that I write the final compiler ? I want to end up writing the final version of my compiler in the language itself but the experimental builds I have so far lack a lot of features and I need like a billion hacks to make it work

@Reiddragon I already have compilers for it but they are not up to date with my requirements. It used to be compiled to C but since then, my needs have made me realize that it has to be interpreted so I have designed a whole bytecode language and written an interpreter and am at the point where im moving my compiler to the bytecode instead of C. I guess my post doesnt really have an answer im just tired out from so much work and need to do more
