nix,

All good points. The main takeaway here should really be about what this particular breakthrough offers, which is an abundant, more environmentally-friendly source material that could be used to replaceLi-Ion in a lot of use cases. And maybe most/all uses with its own improvements over time.

nix,

Yea this is a very worrisome denial.

nix,

You need to meet more young people they don’t know either specifically because companies like google and apple try to obscure competition by making their way seem like the only way.

nix,

This article is also only applicable to EU, where (as your link mentions) alternative browsers don’t need to be WebKit. Chrome and Firefox are already working on switching.

Where can I buy ebooks that will actually be mine for life?

I’m looking to change my reading and buying habits away from Amazon and need an alternate source for my ebooks. Where can I buy ebooks that won’t expire or have their licence revoked and will allow me to download a copy of that ebook I can store on my own system regardless of the websites status?

nix,

Largely agree. I think the bamboozlers were there the whole time - after all, a lot of early radio was for propaganda purposes. But I do think most companies try to do things the right way, and there was a point when marketing was seen as simple outreach.

Legitimate interest? (lemmy.world)

I never consent to give my data away or being tracked, but how do you deal with so called legitimate interest? I tried several times to untick them but it is a long list (in fact at the bottom there is a “vendors” link with even longer, much longer list. It took me 10 minutes to get to the bottom of it once)....

nix,

Amateur advice. Don’t own your own device. ask your friends to look up things for you on their devices, then print them out and mail them to your PO Box. Untraceable.

nix,

Good thoughts. Did you follow the link to thread that was the tipping point for the blog author? The thread creator was very rude (according to, due to his own mental health situation). We all have different levels of tolerance and patience, but I can totally see why the blog author would be fed up after such a comment, if things were already stressful.

nix,

That’s a good comparison I hadn’t honestly thought of! Thanks

nix,

I don’t agree that Wikipedia used to be the only place. There were plenty of competing encyclopedias, it was simply the best long-term.

nix,

Good news but damn is this clickbait. Not a single specific noun until you’re in the story.

nix,

It had a leak a few years back. Not a huge one, but it’d add up on devices that had a ton of tabs or were always on.

nix,

Anyone using a work or school Chromebook is, actually.

nix,

5 euros a month. Worth it, it’s by far the best VPN.

nix,

Me playing OpenTTD on my gaming rig.

nix,

I’ve heard good things, I’ll wishlist it and grab it in a good sale sometime!

Discord has real advantages over many of those, and communities are slow to pick up and move. It’ll take either a very bad decision from discord or a good competitor. I want that competitor to be Matrix, but it’s far from perfect.

Adding license after some time with no license?

I have previously written a lot of code that is hosted on a public repo on GitHub, but it never had a license. It was written as part of my work while working for a non-commercial academic entity, and I would like to add a license before the link to the repo will be included in something that will be made public, potentially...

nix,

Also not a lawyer, but you can also grant exceptions to the license (if you’re the sole owner of the code), so you can license code one way and let a certain org use it another way.

Which is essentially already what’s happening. The default “license” of something is that you have full ownership and no rights are given to anyone else. You’ve essentially give your company an exception to use it for that project.

nix,

I’m glad I skipped release day. Definitely waiting to buy it on sale after it’s been fixed with updates and DLC. Sucks to see companies treat buyers like testers.
