After my last lifestream to the "knip" in Weesperstraat, several right-wing trolls were saying I was a lying WEF shill for "avoiding" the Kattenburgerstraat; the street with such crippling traffic due to the knip that the VVD are demanding an immediate stop to the 6-week project.

So this morning at rush hour I visited the Kattenburgerstraat and as it turns out, the right-wing press are lying.

Shocking, I know.

@hayify it was a problem for the first few days of the knip.

I am skeptical that it is still a problem.

Regardless, the knip is happening for 6 weeks. I have seen nothing to suggest that the traffic on the Kattenburgerstraat is at a "project-cancelling" level.

I believe that the right wing media and politicians are inflating this "problem" to push their own agenda.

The Kattenburgerstraat has never been a low-traffic street, which is why it was redesigned a few years ago already.

You can't post anything about good urbanism in the Netherlands, or really anywhere in Europe, and not have someone say it wouldn't work in the US or Canada because these countries are "too big".

Seriously, it's ridiculous how pervasive this excuse is.

And yet it's so stupid, right? People don't travel across the country every day, they travel within their city.

I really didn't want to, but I finally broke down and made a video about this. It had to be done.🤦‍♂️

My content has brought more people to urbanism than any other, not in spite of the tone, but because of it.

Before I made like this, there were lots of urbanist creators who made careful, well-researched, well-though out videos ... that were boring as hell.

Nobody is watching those "nice" urbanists. They never were. THAT is preaching to the choir.

My growth came when I started being blunt and honest.

If you don't like it, go watch something else. I'm tired of hearing about it.

@gemini6ice Proving that people will find just about anything to complain about.

This is a pretty well-known meme, and using that meme will make the video perform much better than a random clown picture.

I get over 2 million unique viewers every month. It is literally impossible to please everyone, so I have stopped trying.

If people are really that upset about a common meme in a YouTube thumbnail, then they need to stop and consider what they want to be spending their time thinking about.

Nebula is a great alternative to YouTube, if you're not happy with the way Google runs things.

The only people who would rather watch on PeerTube over Nebula are ideologues and people who want me to make expensive high-quality content and get absolutely no compensation for it.

I'm actually OK with those people not watching my videos. For everyone else, there's YouTube and Nebula.

@reina No. It would just be an extra platform for me to manage with a constant blacklist whack-a-mole.

PeerTube is just a bunch of extra work for me for absolutely no benefit. I can get more exposure by spending the time I would spend on PeerTube, and making more videos instead. I certainly wouldn't make money from PeerTube.

The only people who benefit are those who want me to make high-quality content for free.

If you don't like YouTube, sign up to Nebula. Otherwise, don't watch my videos.

@weethet @forteller there's nothing wrong with the overpass though? The problem was that cyclists were being routed to the busy highway exit roundabout behind it.

Does someone know the correct way to report a problem area with the gemeente Amsterdam?

There's a section where a lot of drivers are starting to drive over the curb to cut through a neighbourhood to avoid traffic. A bollard would solve the problem, by I need to know where to report it.

If I'm IRL and Canadian in Ontario says that Canada is too big for [whatever] I like to say, "so you drive to Vancouver every day? No? Well what difference does it make then?"

They then fumble an answer that they weren't prepared to give because they thought "Canada is big" was a mic drop.
