Until actual consequences are enforced, he is.

Hopefully this is one of a dozen times this year that he finally gets real consequences.

There’s plenty available for sale at non-gouged prices since production ramped back up again. Last 6 months have been fine.

You were downvoted - presumably by people that don’t like some of the things Brave does but surely they don’t think Google isnt far, far worse.

Personally, I use Kagi, but still.

Amazon’s not good at shipping?

I don’t like a lot of their business practices, but holy shit do they get stuff to my house fast and reliably. Most of the time, same or next day.

It’s anecdotal, but for me they’ve been better than ever over the last year.

Agreed about the competitor issue, although I don’t recall any competitor who was even close or looked like on the path to become close.

I tried ordering something from Newegg the other day just to avoid using Amazon. I didn’t need it right away, but then saw ETA was 2 weeks. From Amazon it was next-day (so I could do the thing I wanted to do that weekend). Cancelled the Newegg order.

I don’t know how we get a viable competitor on that front, but damn, there is no one that seems close on the logistical front.

I’m hoping some antitrust effort will lead to Amazon being forced to open up its warehouses/shipping to other retailers, I guess.

Sounds like maybe some areas are a lot better than others, and I happen to live in one of the good ones maybe

It’s definitely unpopular but it seemed pretty coherent to me.

Is NIMBY the right term here…?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

No, this 1-year-ole is not the same one from 3 years ago.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

NIMBY to me would be things like people who want Wind power but not near them. Seems like you’re using it fairly differently so I’m asking about that.

Latest Adblock update causes massive YouTube performance hit (www.bleepingcomputer.com)

Update 1/16 - Adblock has informed BleepingComputer that its engineers fixed the problem and released ABP 3.22.1 and AB 5.17.1 on the Opera and Edge extension stores. The same versions are currently in review on the Mozilla and Chrome add-on stores, and should be made available soon.

ripcord,

I definitely wouldn’t find it annoying.

But the topic here is new car prices.

And presumably, all the people paying these stupid prices, getting 60+ month loans, only focusing on payments, etc.

This has an impact on the user market as well.

while transit generally becomes better when you add more riders.

I’m generally pro-transit, but it seems like there’s some serious congestion problems (that is, upper limits to how these systems scale) to deal with here too - looking at relatively rich but crowded cities like New York and Tokyo and how people are frequently packed in like sardines.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

many did have their transit bought out by the car lobby

I know that happened in LA, where else?

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

Fortunately it’s gotten modestly better in the last year, depending on what you’re looking for. But yeah, 10 months ago when I was looking there was virtually no advantage to getting 2-3 year old models of the car I was looking for. Ended up getting a new one for the first time in my life (lucky enough to be able to afford it, though I had kept the previous one for 10 years partly saving up)

You apparently fed some weird-ass ducks :)

Isn’t it like $100 per app publisher per year?

I mean, that’s not nothing but seems like it wouldn’t take much - certainly not many subscriptions - to pay it off.

A very small GoFundMe or coffee tip jar or just spread out the costs between a few interested people and you’re done.

Most of the ad-infested apps - and at this point, that’s virtually anything listed for free - are just cash grabs, not anything to do with recouping listing costs.

Are users actually replacing with Chrome on desktop? As often as you’re implying?

I’ve assumed the vast majority of the significant Edge market share has been due to cases where it’s shipped as the default (or Windows pestering users to make it the default). And the majority of Chrome market share the last 5+ years coming from Google deals with OEMs making Chrome the default. Not due to the majority of people seeking out the browser theyve determined is best (or are familiar with). And due to corporate mandates, for business PCs. I don’t have data to back this up, though.

Obviously, people do intentionally switch to either browser for various reasons, but I’d be amazed if it was more than like 10% of the cases at this point.

Biden "running out" of patience with Bibi as Gaza war hits 100 days (www.axios.com)

President Biden and other senior U.S. officials are becoming increasingly frustrated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his rejection of most of the administration’s recent requests related to the war in Gaza, four U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the issue told Axios....

They aren’t useful at all for making claims about large trends.

You were making claims about the full market. Stats or it didn’t happen

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

The topic was cost of living. Then someone mentioned it AND taxes. Then this person replied to the cost of living part.

Seems weird to read this conversation and see the claim bias and goalpost moving. They very clearly are not shifting anything.

Also you’re making a pretty wild assumption that by stating facts with evidence that they’re “biased”. Don’t be that guy/girl. I hate it when conservatives do that too.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

I see that you’re shifting goalposts, neat.

ripcord,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

It’s relevant since the topic was cost of living. If you’re going to try to talk to people, try to keep up with the conversation.
