sic_semper_tyrannis,

I use OnlyOffice and enjoy it. I do notice some fancy features missing but as I’m not a power user it doesn’t bother me. I’ve opened OnlyOffice docx files in MS Office and vice versa many times with no issues ever. I’ve also installed MS fonts on my Linux distro and they work in OnlyOffice. I don’t notice it pushing online features like somebody else said

sic_semper_tyrannis,

You have the crop factor backwards. It’ll increase the effective focal length. Multiply the crop factor by the focal length of the lens

Your car is spying on you (if it’s new-ish)

Use Ublock Origin and be sure to select better filters, get her using Bitwarden the password manager, and use Quad9 DNS to block lots of bad websites and malware.

O&O Shutup is a nice Windows software to block lots of crap.

sic_semper_tyrannis,

Comes with the typical bs Playstation EULA: “The Software is licensed to you, not sold. SIE grants to you a limited, non-exclusive license to use the Software for personal use on the system or device for which it was purchased.”

Is osmand normally terrible?

I just tried osmand. It took forever to locate me and then the map would freeze for minutes, then the blue arrow would finally jump to my location. It seems useless for real time navigation, is that normal? Google maps works fine on the phone (Android) so it’s not the hardware. Is there maybe some setting I haven’t found?...

SMS was a huge factor for getting my wife on a degoogled os

sic_semper_tyrannis,

I’m going to put a UN or QR code on my website for another form of tech support. (Think of WhatsApp numbers)

sic_semper_tyrannis,

Bring back the standard DIN design. Then we can all change out our head unit with something that has Garmin but doesn’t affect the physical buttons on the dash below it.

Duel Magazine MP40/I for Tacticool Reloads (1942) (lemmy.world)

This submachine gun has a distinctive enlarged magazine housing that takes two MP-40 magazines and allows switching between those in a matter of pressing a latch in front of the magwell and sliding the two side by side oriented magazines left or right. The idea was to have an ability to faster resume firing when the magazine was...

sic_semper_tyrannis,

Like running Windows in a VM with the program? I really don’t want Windows in my life if possible

sic_semper_tyrannis,

I’m getting Windows out of my life. I’ll look into Wine again

sic_semper_tyrannis,

I totally get what you’re saying. Luckily for me the program just runs formulas so I can figure out for instance what size plenum, what length runners, what size turbo, etc. I need. I’m not using it to flash a tune as my engine is too old for that fancy stuff

sic_semper_tyrannis,

I have previously used VirtualBox successfully. I am really trying to stay away from Windows if at all possible. If I absolutely had to I might run a VM with WinXP or Vista just for it

sic_semper_tyrannis,

Thank you. I’ll be sure to that I have the libraries I need

sic_semper_tyrannis,

That looks like a pretty nifty OS. If I can’t get the software working via Wine or something I’ll definitely try this before Windows in a VM

Are there any Windows-exclusive programs you use?

I had to test/fix something at work and I set up a Windows VM because it was a bug specific to Windows users. Once I was done, I thought, “Maybe I should keep this VM for something.” but I couldn’t think of anything that wasn’t a game (which probably wouldn’t work well in a VM anyway) or some super specific enterprise...

sic_semper_tyrannis,

I tried Lutris first and it was okay but left something to be desired. I switched to Heroic and am in love with it. It works so well and the UI is great

sic_semper_tyrannis,

Interesting. I use it on Linux and haven’t had the issue of uninstallable games. I wish Playnite had a Linux client

So I found a cheap bridge camera that I have free access to. Is it worth learning on. (www.adorama.com)

I have free access to a family member’s camera but it really isn’t the best. I think it has a 1/2" sensor though the sensor is not listed anywhere on the box or in the manual which I guess is a red flag. Should I wait and save up more money to buy a better camera or could I use this one to learn on?

sic_semper_tyrannis,

You can absolutely learn on it. Start to get a hood understanding of ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Practice composing scenes and learning how to edit

sic_semper_tyrannis,

And DRM free stuff so when you purchase it and download it, you truly own it

My experience using Fedora Atomic (Budgie) for a month or two. (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I would just like to preface this. This is the first blog post I’ve ever written, so please please please give me feedback if you can. I also didn’t intend on it being here on Lemmy, but Hugo is quite a complex tool that’ll take some time for me to understand. Webdev is not my cup of tea....
