@mangotable @tokyohomo I get what you mean. It was years before I actually got to “see” Osaka because my first three times I went by shinkansen, took a taxi to the venue, made my teaching presentation, got in another taxi, and rode the shink home.

I’ve discovered a very stupid subgenre of animal TikTok — mislabeled primates TikTok

A representative example would be someone commenting “look at the monkey’s butt” while filming a chimpanzee in a video titled “Gorilla at zoo” 😤

There are a lot of these types of videos 😮‍💨

Also, I was worried there was a small chance something else was wrong 🤷‍♂️

But my main concern was leaving him and then finding out the next day he got hit by a car

Japanese textbook recommendations needed!

By the way, thank you to the person who recommended やさしい作文! I’m more than halfway through and have been slowly improving my writing skills.

I have decided to wait another year for N2. In the meantime, I’d like to use an intermediate textbook that focuses on daily life, especially dealing with things like the bank or city offices. Does such a text exist? The bookstores only have JPLT textbooks.

Famichikis, I really need your help.

I was born in Watford, County of Hertford, UK and had my birth certificate translated. The Japanese government official is saying my katakana is wrong. Is there an official site with names of places in the UK in katakana? (He’s mostly taking issue with “Hertford”.)

@FlockOfCats I was just trying to survive the conversation and didn’t write it down. But, yeah, why does it say Hertford County when it’s actually Hertfordshire. Shire means county? (I always had an image of it meaning a quaint little village with sheep running around.)

I did a translation for a museum event that takes place on May 5th, and the title in Japanese is "資料館へGo Go Go!" and I took the easy way of making it "Go Go Go To the Museum"
Now the client is wanting something punny and my dadjoke skills are failing me. "May you be the fifth one to the museum? "May you have Five Times the Fun?" "May Fifth is Five Times the Fun!"
I should charge more for this...

Now I understand why my husband wanted to bring me to this minshiku on Sugashima, a ten minute ferry ride from Toba port. I will add to the Famichiki cheese discussion. My husband bought a delicious creamy blue cheese from the Meitetsu cheesemonger and said it was Rockfall cheese. It was so good and I thought it was a brand name of cheese. Maybe American? Couldn’t find anything on Google.

Then it hit me. ロックフォール. It’s Roquefort cheese, not Rockfall! 😂

I took the old N3 in 1997 when I was heavily pregnant with my son, which was a VERY long time ago. Things have really changed since then, haven’t they?
