@jmhorner I’ve just been doing this for now because idk how to manage it. I spent years coping with SELinux so I’m just not stoked about having to learn a new set of idiosyncrasies to accomplish security++ or whatever

IMO saying Ubuntu is a good choice for nubs is antiquated advice. Fedora is probably easier to hit the ground running with now. Btw, I use Debian and I don’t run updates

Roku is a fucking shining example of late-stage capitalism. First they push an update to get rid of the channel numbers so you just have to scroll through hundreds of FAST channels to find fuckin Pawn Stars. Then I guess enough people joined the angry mob that they brought the channel numbers back but with a twist: THEY’RE NOT IN NUMERICAL ORDER. There is no numeric keypad on a Roku remote so the only way the numbers were ever useful were being in order.

It is a TELEVISION why are there even updates at all?? What fucking outcome are they going for here? What the fuck experiment are we living in now where channel 3 isn’t fuckin channel 3 anymore I’m flabbergasted (I did find Pawn Stars after 5 min.)

@jmhorner Yeah in my room I have a dumb TV I’m clinging to hooked up to a Debian PC. Can’t really get away with that in the living room because the Mrs. needs to be able to use it and I haven’t yet been successful in converting her to communist software. I do have some DNS ad-blocking so hopefully some of it’s calls to home are getting blocked.

I also plan to hook up another old Debian PC to this TV but mostly for emulators/games. If I upgraded the GPU I’m sure it could play newer games but I can just play those in the basement so no one hears me scream…

Ok I get why you'd want to defederate from threads but that tool from GitHub that blocks Facebook, all of its employees, their children, their children's children, and so on is maybe a bit much.
