thedirtyknapkin,

yeah, the fact that we all know if it but none of us knew what it did is still kind of a failure. if the pop up defined sticky keys it might actually have seen some use in everyday life. like i might actually start using that when I’m on the phone at work and need to do stuff on the computer at the same time. assuming it’s still easily accessible in Windows 11.

thedirtyknapkin,

i mean, i think it’s pretty obvious they meant like dress uniforms. these are just short and tight compared to dress blues, but generally in a similar style.

thedirtyknapkin,

eh, as a videographer who measures and labels the output of lights professionally sometimes, we count bounced lights as lights.

thedirtyknapkin,

it’s also damn slow and destructive if you’re trying to fit it into a true professional workflow with deadlines. i work with programs like it professionally and I only use gimp when i find myself on a random computer that doesn’t have anything else. it’ll get the job done, pretty much any job, but it might be very slow and painful. as someone who DEFINITELY knows how to use gimp, i understand the op they’re clowning more than i understand the 1 peer i know that’s actually managing to make money with a fully foss workflow. I also happen to know he largely doesn’t sleep to accomplish it.

gimp and darktable and similar projects are great, but workflow efficiency is what they do after they finish adding features. that just never happens. it’s not the exciting work.

thedirtyknapkin,

i think the line generally comes specifically at “publicly traded company” that’s when everything other than “line go up” is thrown out. publicly traded companies are inherently bad for everyone but those who invest in them.

brother that was over a decade ago. that change happened almost a quarter of the internet’s lifespan ago.

they did that in 2009. YouTube only existed in that state for 2 years. so like 90% of YouTube’s existence has not included the star rating.

thedirtyknapkin,

yes, all of them. if what the tech was made for.

thedirtyknapkin,

wizard probably had to transmute his clothes smaller to fit. not many medieval folk would likely be able to easily acquire frog sized clothing.

thedirtyknapkin,

oh but that’s basically only humans. our mouths are one of our fairly unique features.

thedirtyknapkin,

damn, slow buffering? it’s not actually making you like download download it right? it was doing that at first on my phone when I used a .mov container. seemed better with i switched it to an mp4. still looking for a better platform with embeddable video that isn’t YouTube and supports larger/higher quality files, but also allows users to convert it down as needed. some people can’t/don’t want to load a 4k version.

the focus was worse than the shake. if you full screen it it gets a little rough a few times. the shake is more just a bit of motion blur from time to time because of post stabilization. it wouldn’t even be there if i was at a higher shutter speed, but I needed all the light i could get.

thedirtyknapkin,

or an in house solution. Sony is big enough to build out their own team for it. I could see that making sense. i think Sony probably has the best bet out of the companies that own all of the music. they could be positioned to be the only ones capable of making a music “ai”

Arizona accuses Amazon of being a monopoly and deceiving consumers with “dark patterns” (www.theverge.com)

Arizona’s Attorney General, Kris Mayes, filed two lawsuits against Amazon on Wednesday for allegedly engaging in deceptive business practices and maintaining monopoly status. The first lawsuit accuses the company of using dark patterns to keep users from canceling their Amazon Prime subscriptions, violating Arizona’s...

thedirtyknapkin,

think that’s kind of the fate of all new things in today’s world. if it can be used unscrupulously for money, someone will be doing that for tremendous profit. especially since new stuff usually isn’t illegal, Even if it should be.

thedirtyknapkin,

that’s called a moire pattern, it’s more like aliasing than anti aliasing.

thedirtyknapkin,

there’s country music fans everywhere. especially Dolly Parton.

thedirtyknapkin,

which is also how people became so adamant that they bite and don’t sting. it’s a lot easier to see the bite.

thedirtyknapkin,

ok, so among English speaking countries, how is it more often used? we’ve got multiple people in this thread aggressively telling him he’s wrong, but no other definitions.

thedirtyknapkin, (edited )

it’s both and more. nothing is as simple as a soundbite.

the people in those states are afraid of “the liberal agenda”. they’re being told that the Democrats are gonna take their meat and force them to eat bugs and lab grown slop. naturally, they’re completely unwilling to ever Even try any of this stuff they hate, but that’s neither here nor there. this constant cycle of fear and outrage gets their votes. who should they vote for? the guy that promises he’ll stop the other guy from force feeding you bugs, or the one that never Even mentions this clearly important election issue?

this particular fear cycle was likely created and pushed by the beef industry that is large and strong in those states. cattle farming is by far the most environmentally inefficient way to produce protein. it’s like 10x worse than chickens which are like 10x worse than the worst plant. this is a common leftist talking point these days. it’s part of the rhetoric. so the idea that liberals are going to come after beef isn’t entirely just based on media lies. if they go out and try to find opposing ideas they’ll find that the left hates their cows and wants them to become vegan.

and i mean, there are people on the left who would force that kind of thing on them. look at lemmygrad and the tankies. that’s my key ideological difference with communism. the state shouldn’t force these practices, but i also don’t think it’s realistic to believe that America is anywhere close to ever doing that. the only states that would ever use the law to force someone’s eating habits for cultural reasons are currently using that to ban lab grown meet.

I, as a leftist in America, genuinely hope that one day lab grown meat will be as cheap, good, and available as regular beef while being more environmentally friendly. i hope that this gets some hardcore beef eaters to realize that flavor is more important than whether something died to make it. lab meat is already outperforming natural steaks in flavor because it’s literally designed to have perfect marbling. if we just let this play its course, we could probably expect many of them to eventually switch over. it may take a generation or two, people are very stubborn, but it could be very good for many things in the long run.

this sentiment alone is enough to scare conservatives. they don’t even need the media or big beef to scare them. we’re doing that on our own.

just like ever issue, the reality of it is nuanced and gray. most people aren’t willing to read that much or think that hard about their feelings. they’d prefer a string of tiktoks or political tweets that dumb it all down to one sentence.

if you ever find yourself saying “it’s not that complicated it’s just…” you probably need to read more into that subject. it’s always at least that complicated.

edit: lol, literally in this thread someone pointed out another angle that i didn’t. these states are full of people that work in the cattle industry. no one wants to see their town become Detroit.

thedirtyknapkin,

that’s nice if you actually burn anything. if you just don’t vote then you’re just going to get stomped by fascists. either you actually commit to that level of action or you get rolled by those that do.

that’s just an empty welcome to the fascists of it’s not backed by meaningful planned action. the only way what you said will work is of you’re ready to fucking go the second trump wins. he’s not leaving otherwise. so either you’re in a militia or you’re pathetic and part of the problem.

thedirtyknapkin,

dry needing is a different thing. that’s where they electrically simulate the muscles to like hyper massage them. it’s kind of an extreme deep tissue massage. leaves me sore usually.

it’s not accupuncture, it’s a medical sound practice primarily done by physical therapists.

thedirtyknapkin,

the crazy thing about placebo is just how effective it is. because yes, placebo could do that.

we have piles of studies that prove beyond a doubt that placebo can measurably and significantly aid in the healing of physical injuries like broken legs. you don’t Even need to believe in it. there’s studies where patients are told they’re being given a placebo that will do nothing, and they STILL got better faster than the group given nothing.

thedirtyknapkin,

I did everything in Lightroom.

so it started in camera really. i knew that i was going to have a hard time saving details in the clouds, so i shot it really dark with the intent of brightening it in post.

when i got back i saw i still managed to blow a little off the highlights, but the shadows were perfect. nothing clipped, so i cranked the hell out of them, but added back a lot of black contrast with the dehaze slider. cropped it long and narrow, brushed some detail out of the flair on the barn, masked out the background to treat the clouds as much as o could to save the highlight detail without screwing the rest of it. uhhh warmed it slightly, maybe pushed the barn more red if i remember correctly…

i was pretty sleepy when i did this one lol. I’d have to check the lightroom history to tell you more.

thedirtyknapkin,

lightroom’s masking tools have recently gotten a hell of a lot better. it’s a proper good implementation of modern ai. it’s scary how well it will mask people now. you can even select by section, so like “teeth” “face” “clothes” etc. it will also separate them by person. for this one i just used the ai quick select on the sky and it worked perfectly. the barn on the other hand i just did a soft edge brush. the new ai Denoise also feels like magic. it straight up made me reconsider what i think of as a usable iso on my camera.

thedirtyknapkin,

sometimes the ones near me that nest by trails are pretty tolerant. though, i was also at 500mm.
