😈 You should buy this 10G switch
😇 I already have a 10G switch
😈 It comes with 32 SFP 10G modules

😇 But it needs a license.
😈 There's a CVE for that.

Ended up purchasing an OpenFlow switch for the substation testbed...

Going to be interesting to see how easy it is to integrate this with custom programs to dynamically create and modify flow routing rules.

Check your food before you eat it!

This is the second time in a month when I've purchased food and found that the packaging was never sealed correctly at the factory.

Woah, looks like modwiggler was sold: https://modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=283061

Sounds like it could have been a lot worse.

Microsoft forcing licensees to have to put an AI button on keyboards is a great example of how this crap is being forced on everyone.

@ve7fim I have done this manually a few times and I can say that it's ... Optimistic. When it doesnt want to go, it doesnt want to go. Also the harder is usually to pull the actual cables. :)

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

@f4grx I've pulled so much cable through conduit using a manual fish, and this would really help... Just the distance measurement alone is so useful, because then I can cut my cable to length before pulling it back through.

Github is almost unusually slow now, with each page taking 3 - 5 seconds to load all their dynamic JavaScript to render everything.

Editing text is especially infuriating, since there is a pronounced lag between when you type and when characters show up on the screen.

I don't like the direction that the web is going.

@ve7fim I have a fucking Ryzen 7950x and browsing code on GitHub is still slow as molasses

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

@rain

I don't understand how they can ignore all the usability research that shows how a non-responsive laggy site will make people hate them and drive their user base away. Are they that out of touch?

Or is that their goal?

I mean, this is the company that wants to put "AI" buttons on everything...

It's time to order some PCBs!

First difficulty — JLCPCB's web site no longer works on Safari. I have to use Firefox instead.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

PCBs arrived at the door this morning. Unusual for shipping to be this fast, less than four days to go halfway around the world.

ve7fim,
@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

The PCBs are looking good! I'll do some testing later, and post pictures.

Woot!

I just picked up a working National Instruments PXI crate full of cards at auction for $170. You don't want to know what they used to go for back in the day...

Having used LabView a fair bit back in the days (I still have my copy of the very original release of Labview 1.0 for Macintosh), I think the concept of visual languages, especially for signal processing and hardware-adjacent work has been unfairly maligned.

@ve7fim@mastodon.social avatar

@gsuberland

Here's hoping that it arrives intact!

I already have a PXIe chassis that I used for high-bitrate SDR work, but that one I really should sell before it drops way down in value.

I need to stop looking at a piece of equipment and go "Wow, it has USB, it must be pretty new".

The date USB was brought to market is closer to when I was born than to today.

astrid,
@astrid@fedi.astrid.tech avatar

@ve7fim even now I still have "USB 3.0 port scarcity syndrome" where I try to put USB 2 in 2.0 ports instead of 3.0 ports, even if the computer is entirely 3.0, or I don't have anything going into the 3.0s yet

I wrote a device driver for MacOS System 7 way back when the first PowerMacs with PCI support came out. That was fun.

Phone company doesn't send a bill like they usually do, then tries to enrol me in direct deposit without my consent or knowledge, then sends me a nastygram saying that "Pre-authorized payment has failed", with a penalty fee.

And people wonder why they are one of the most despised companies around here...

Oh, and they raised the price of their service, too.

I just came across a $50 Dante audio module that looks pretty easy to interface with.

I do not need another project...

But it would be so cool...

@ve7fim ooo, could you please post a link? I have a Dante network at work I have to occasionally interface with embedded stuff systems.

@unicycle

The module is the Audiocom A227.
