xantoxis,

Lol this is hilariously bad though, I can’t even figure out what the pie areas represent. Like, 2017 is about 55-60% of the pie. What fact in that set of data represents about 55-60% of something? It’s like they just dragged the pie slices around until they liked how it looked. You can’t even make graphing software give you that output.

xantoxis,

oh shit you got it.

I still don’t think they could have produced this from graphing software, it must have been drawn by hand and w h y

xantoxis,

you gotta put a piece of tape on there. if the tape moved then you know they did it

xantoxis,

They’re all scams. This one’s just more obvious.

xantoxis,

Honestly I couldn’t get through either Melancholia or Antichrist even though I love slow burn horror and sci fi. Just didn’t grab me at all. I’m glad he’s out there doin his thing though

xantoxis, (edited )

Doing both. The POTUS doesn’t read Lemmy and go “haha these fools are gonna vote for me, I don’t gotta change shit”. To the extent you can influence that office at all, you can do it while simultaneously urging people to vote for the lesser evil.

xantoxis,

It probably is, but 52k DAU’s isn’t nothing. That’s more than you can reach by phone banking.

xantoxis,

I guess I’m not surprised that programmers don’t know how to follow meme standards.

The three panels following the first one are supposed to be helping the first one.

These bugs are always opened by IC developers who need help and have little agency. So,

Closed “won’t fix” with note

Contributions accepted if you want to deliver the fix. If you are not in a position to dictate to your employer how your time is spent (and, if so, I understand your problem) please report to your manager that you will be unable to use this software without contributing the fix. Alternately, switch to [competitor]. Your manager should understand that the cost to the company of contributing a fix for this bug is less than the switching cost for [competitor]. I wish you luck, either way.

And then make the above text a template response, so you don’t have to spend your time typing it more than once.

xantoxis,

Altman is a fucking con artist. He’s just Elon Musk on the way up, with the exact same nonexistent ethical framework. I hope he gets eaten alive before the world rewards him with Musk-level money.

xantoxis,

When I say I hope he gets eaten, I’m not making a metaphor about the invisible hand of the market, I want a wild animal to devour him

xantoxis,

Even if he doesn’t realize it

… or want it, considering he’s not really affiliated with them any more.

xantoxis,

Meh, this story needs to be either 1) funnier or 2) more plausible.

4ish years ago when I bought a house I was convinced not to get a house inspection, would it be crazy to get one now just to make sure it's all good?

Was 25 and super nervous, so when the realtor was like “oh yeah they just check for basic stuff, but I looked around and it looks great” I was like “Oh okay, this is so astronomically expensive every penny saved is good…”...

xantoxis, (edited )

I’m not trying to give you shit here OP, you did what you did 4 years ago and you’re thinking of doing something about it now so it’s all good, but:

this is so astronomically expensive every penny saved is good…”

This is so astronomically expensive that I can’t imagine caring about 300 bucks to see if anything is horrifically wrong with it. Seriously folks, get an inspection if you’re buying a house! This would be like, I dunno, taking a job without talking to a single person who works there, except at least with the job you can quit without wasting thousands of dollars! The inspection could save your life!

xantoxis,

Because change is costly and therefore a risk. When it seems that resources are scarce, risks are dangerous, and it can seem rational to destroy ideas that cost more resources, lest your imagined model of society collapse for lack of resources as the idea takes over.

It’s always conservatism, in other words.

US House votes to force weapons shipments to Israel, rebuking Biden (www.reuters.com)

The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday that would force President Joe Biden to send weapons to Israel, seeking to rebuke the Democrat for delaying bomb shipments as he urges Israel to do more to protect civilians during its war with Hamas....

xantoxis,

Sure but the point is, after months of pithy quips about how the Democrats will support genocide of the Palestinians and the Republicans will support genocide of everyone including the Palestinians;

here we see that even on this specific issue, the parties have differences. So make the right choice.

xantoxis,

When you order surf & turf, you’re eating the shells?

xantoxis, (edited )

The picture is of the outside of clams, but it says “shells”. The rest of the names of things in this picture don’t seem to have inaccuracies or non-English names–suggesting that “shells” is, in fact, what the creator of this superstitious sign actually meant.

Shell powder is actually added to some things as a calcium enhancement or preservative, but, notably, this is not at all what happens when you eat surf and turf. The only conclusion is that the surf & turf person up there thinks people eat the shell when they order lobster.

xantoxis,

This feels a bit subtle, they should have gone with a black and white photo of Hitler and “Miss me yet?”

xantoxis,

The Secret Service was created to investigate counterfeiting. The president stuff came later.

xantoxis,

I chuckled at the first commenter’s description of this as a boulder, but honestly the metaphor is pretty robust.

xantoxis,

We’re just doing pro cop memes now? How bout no
