Two weeks ago as I was preparing to launch brand filtering in Petty I was confident I had a complete list of every fuel station brand in Australia (putting independents together) so that I could normalise the data for filtering.

This week, days after the update launched, I notice have Coles started renaming their stations to Reddy Express...

@tonyarnold @harshil It is! Both major supermarkets in AU run fuel stations. They don't provide the fuel, that comes from a company like Caltex or Shell, but they run the convenience store attached to the station which is usually where the money is anyway. Sometimes they're branded on the fuel, sometimes on the convenience store.

You can get discounts on fuel from Coles stations if you also shop at Coles supermarkets, but their prices generally start a bit higher so it's much of a muchness.

    Genuine pedantic question: why is Daylight Saving Time ending when entering Winter, when Winter is the season with sparse daylight, and therefore when daylight actually needs “saving”?

    @layoutSubviews I think it's more about describing the purpose of daylight savings time when we're in it. In summer, daylight savings time aids to save daylight hours (i.e. by having an extra hour of daylight in the evening). So when going into winter, we lose that savings time. It's a weird phrase, but it kinda makes sense.

    I think my (admittedly short) days of doing my own plumbing are over.

    No cold water until the plumber comes tomorrow to fix my mess, so yay for trying and failing to save money I guess?

    @MuseumShuffle Ugh that's the worst - especially since he was trying to be helpful!

    My partner and I knew the risks and can live with being inconvenienced for a bit, but would hate to do it to someone else. The problem would've presented itself regardless of if a plumber did it or not, we just don't have the tools or the skills to fix it!

    I'm trying to get on top of everything that could go wrong before it gets serious (eg as soon as I notice a leak or rusty pipe).

    And it can have such far reaching effects. A few years ago I woke to a few mm of water on the floor of my place (it's an apartment) not because anything happened in my place but because the neighbour had a pipe burst and water ran from their place into mine. No damage (thanks to tiles) and not their fault but still incredibly annoying!

    This is truly the darkest of days.

    For the first time in 3 1/2 years I have missed attending iOS Dev Happy Hour.

    Time heals all wounds and this will sting less one day. But not today.

    Also: Make them significantly more expensive to register and insure for large SUV's and Ute's.     Fun fact: being born on 03/03 really helped when we moved to the US, as I never had to get used to entering my date of birth differently on forms, since MM/DD and DD/MM are the same 🤓

    I launched @PleaseDontRain one year ago today!

    While I do cringe a little when I look at launch day screenshots I’m really proud of the work I’ve continuously put in over the year to end up at the screenshot on the right.

    I’m working on a big release that will include some UI tweaks based on my design lab with Apple.
