I think I still prefer owlcat games overall but damn, I really like how streamlined BG3 is. I do not miss the infinite buffing and pre-combat preparations that pathfinder boils down to in the end - and despite this I still feel like combat in BG3 is more tactical and I have more choices every turn in the end.
Ah, it recently announced a $48,000 spaceship bundle, the latest in an ongoing line, which contains every ship in the game and is apparently only accessible to those who’ve already spent $1,000…
I like to dunk on SC as much as the next guy but how can you say this at all with a straight face? For starters, can I walk around my ship? Is there a story-based campaign I can play through? Are there capital ships with dozens of players with different roles working on them?
SC will never get finished or live up to the promises it made but ED barely even tries to do anything beyond being a space truck simulator.
You can't walk around on ships in E:D so you're either mistaken or outright lying at this point. I'm not even going to get into talking about thargoids like it's a story campaign, or how co-op works in ED.
Dunno what you mean, the VA is excellent - especially if you consider it's only a few people doing an absolutely huge range of voices.
The main story is interesting if a bit self indulgent (I liked it tho) but the real meat is all the side stories and mini endings IMHO. You'll definitely want to replay it over and over again for those, the main story you can see within a few hours.
We've been really lucky that Steam hasn't been enshittified yet but it's just a matter of time, so I am happy that alternatives like GOG exist, and yes = even alternatives like Epic. Doesn't matter if my library is spread around if I can just launch anything from playnite anyway.
What's wrong with Heroic launcher? Being a linux user you should be used by now to workarounds and alternative solutions to various problems, so why is that tool (that is pretty good and can even be used on steam deck) a deal breaker? That small inconvenience pales in comparison to benefits of DRM-free games and not supporting a monopoly IMHO.
Currently I’m using Joplin with Syncthing-backed file system synchronization. I’m pretty pleased with it, as I do like tagging- and Markdown-based systems....
One of the things I find cool about Kbin is the fact that it's a platform for both thread aggregation and microblogging. How much do you use the latter side of things? Do you make microblog posts, actively browse the microblog tab, view them in your home feed, or rarely touch them?
I used to in the beginning but soon realized it's either kinda dead (people don't use it, people from lemmy don't even see it) or completely filled with spam (because the magazine has some generic tags).
It also didn't work reliably and it wasn't clear which posts go to Mastodon and which don't, but that might have been resolved since.
It's a neat idea for small discussions or questions that don't warrant a thread, but it needs better implementation and wider adoption in order to be actually useful.
Looks like my favorite torrent-site is shutting down in not too long. It’s an invite-only site that I’ve been using for well over a decade, so I’m a bit at a loss as to where to go. Any suggestions? I mainly use it for tv shows and movies....
its a pretty fun game but i wasnt a big fan of how everything eventually boils down to logistic stations, there is one best (and practically only) way of doing things and its pretty bland. Hopefully this adds some spice
Linux is all good if you only play singleplayer games. My friends started playing the finals yesterday and it doesn’t run on linux because of EAC. Windows can run all my games without any proton switching and all the nvidia features like ray reconstruction and pathtracing with frame generation just works (alan wake 2 looks so...
That's not "dumb" tho, that's how you don't end up with an echochamber. Windows communities should discuss the shortcomings of windows, but also linux communities should accept and/or help resolve issues with linux. If the point of this community is to just praise linux and say nothing bad about it then what's even the point of it, it's just going to give a false impression to anyone thinking of switching over.
From your perspective it is not a Linux problem. From the perspective of the user who sees all those "Linux is as good for gaming as windows nowadays!" posts and expects his OS to just work, it is a Linux issue that would be resolved by not using Linux.
Besides, I know nobody gives a shit what we write here in the fediverse but generally speaking you get the change to happen by making enough noise about it. If nobody talks that the dev x doesn't support the linux build, whether its because of EAC or something else, then nothing will ever change about it so stifling these discussions is not good for anyone.
It's still pretty rudimentary with bad wasteful UI design in a window that doesn't remember when you resize it, requiring tons of clicks to access, and still has bugs (not showing name or size of some mods). Still no advanced features like modlists or versioning, or showing dependencies in this UI or anything of the sort.
Can't believe we had MO2 and similar software like a decade ago and big multi-million/billion companies still struggle with the basics. I really wish workshop stopped being used so much and we go to FOSS or at least more open solutions like thunderstore.
I've been using logseq for a few months now, can you go into more detail why you switched to Joplin? You can also just stick to pages rather than the journal with logseq (it's mostly what I've been doing) so I'm not sure from just that comment what's the benefit of Joplin.
I'd say "i will pick it up on a sale in a year or two" but they're just going to release the enhanced / special / anniversary / superspace edition down the line too, so why bother
Lack of moderation, and even if one instance does put in the effort to curate - you just get the link from a different instance anyway because the OP cross posts to a dozen of them.
Sorry if this is off-topic but I want to get some input from the Warframe community on a hunch I have. I’ve been talking to the developers of a game about playing as a cellular organism and evolving into a complex creature - think Spore. And there’s this question about demographics, about whether this kind of game can appeal...
Generally speaking I care little about the theme and more about the execution of a game. I'm gonna play a paperclip incremental game if it's done well. Meanwhile you could make a fantasy warframe clone, call it wayfinders, and I might not be interested in it.
They have been amazing in terms of updates - regular meaningful updates every 2 weeks, it was amazing to see the game evolve so fast. I hope it means they just had a really good codebase and established workflow rather than they were crunching though.
