I can completely understand wanting to differentiate from Reddit, but to me, this is a matter of convenience and priority. Putting right after the article implies commenting on the article is emphasized. Putting it at the bottom of the comment page implies a want to comment on the comments....
The instance we're currently on is kinda defederated rn, other instances can neither see the posts or find the communities (magazines) made while defederated, right?...
They don't even want you to use the website I don't think. They've even done experiments where they blocked people from using the mobile website. The more they want me to use their app, the more I want to avoid Reddit all together.
They want to make sure you see ads so they can get revenue. A user that uses a website, even on mobile, could be using an adblocker. By forcing you to use the app they have full control of what ads you see and how often, thus incerasing the price at which they can rent that ad space.

Also came from reddit so take the following answeras with a grain of salt
An instance is a single copy of a software running on a single physical or virtual server, when we say "X is an instance of Y" we mean X is a specific implemented version of some generic object. for example an SUV and a pickup are both an instance of a car.
Kbin.social is a single instance of kbin, made and run by @ernest.
https://kbin.pub/en (you can also find other instances of kbin in that page)
I'm kinda lost here and it's complicated, but what i kinda know is that all 3 are built to use the ActivityPub social network protocol. ActivityPub defines different kinds of structures for messsages, Lemmy uses a few of them, Mastodon uses a different one, Kbin can interact with all of those. (Lemmy posts show on the "threads" tab, Mastodon posts show on the "microblog" tab)
Yes your acount exists only in this instance, and depends on it to exist.
Currently you can't, that doesn't mean it won't ever be possible, someone could make a tool to do so, there's still stuff the techies developing the platform haven't implemented.
Same as 5?
Same as 6?
Yes it should be possible to find magazines or have yours be found across instances of federated platforms, but there's a few catches. Lets say you have a magazine "Lmao" here, if you were to search for "Lmao" through another instance of Kbin/Lemmy, it would show up as "Lmao@kbin.social", if you tried to find it through Mastodon you would find a user called "@Lmao". Kbin/Lemmy would be able to interact with it normally, idk how Mastodon interactions work.
Hi everyone! I'm the mod of @drugs, and I've been adding some guides for harm reduction to the magazine. However, it seems like the threads I've posted don't show up on the main page for it. Does anyone know why this would be?
if you want to skip typing your username/password, there should be a checkbox at the login screen to keep your account open.
if you want to skip the cloudfare protection... you'll have to wait for @ernest to disable it.
I'm really excited to jump on the Activitypub/Fediverse train, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it works. Kbin is federated (or its supposed to be, apparently DDoS protection is hampering that?), but I'm not sure how I can sign up with my Mastodon account. I already have one, @ArchieBAntlers , and apparently...
Your mastodon account is only good for loggin in the specific instance of mastodon where you made the account.
As for posting into kbin from mastodon, you can follow a magazine as if it was a user, for example i'm, @Mastur, whereas this magazine is @fediverse. That's what i've understood so far, maybe if the federation was working properly i could test/try stuff further :(
Do not underestimate coomers, there's already nsfw magazines here (they show up on the random magazines section lmao), and i've spotted at least one nsfw furry instance of lemmy when browsing join-lemmy.org
If nobody is following me, which is true at the moment, does boosting do anything?
If I understand correctly, it doesn't have anything to do with voting-like functionality to gauge popularity but an equivalent of retweeting. This means, if no one is following me, there's no reason for me to boost anything. Am I right?
Boosting has several effects, or rather, each site performs a different action when a user boosts something.
In mastodon, boosting equals a retweet.
Here in kbin, boosting an article will push it closer to the frontpage of their respective magazine, boosting a comment will push it to the top of the comment section. So your boost will ahve an effect even if you have no followers.
There's more to it, but that's what i understand so far.
I've just noticed that the Magazine moderation log is visible to non-moderators. For example https://kbin.social/m/tech/modlog. Assuming this a deliberate decision and not a mistake that's quite a radical decision. On Reddit for example the modlog is only visible to moderators of each subreddit, there's no way for most users to see or even know if a particular post has been removed.
Being able to see what the mods remove is an issue? Because at reddit the mod/user power balance was ridiculous, there´s been several times where subs go through insane controversies but mods can just... ban/remove people/posts and sweep things under the rug.
Persnonally i think it's a fine idea to let users openly review mod actions.
I wanted to post this here since I want to help as much as I can in my own way to people coming here for the first time. I hope it is useful and helpful! I tried to assume low knowledge with the Fediverse in my responses which I collected here from a different post and assembled into a single article....
The response paragraph of the first question is a little confusing. But otherwise this is exactly what i would have wanted to read 12 hours ago when i made my account.
Why is the comment form at the bottom of the thread instead of the top?

What's "OC"?
I keep saying posts marked as "OC" but I have no idea what that means. Does anyone know?...
What happens when a defederated instance federates?
The instance we're currently on is kinda defederated rn, other instances can neither see the posts or find the communities (magazines) made while defederated, right?...
why does Reddit want us to use the official app so badly?
They don't even want you to use the website I don't think. They've even done experiments where they blocked people from using the mobile website. The more they want me to use their app, the more I want to avoid Reddit all together.

Exactly as the title says, do you guys think Reddit will buckle and at least be more reasonable or maybe even reverse their current decisions?...
