As I've become a part of the Fediverse I keep thinking back to the Bobiverse book series and wanted to give it a shout out on here. It's a fantastic, funny sci-fi series about a man named Bob who gets his consciousness uploaded as the controlling AI for a space ship.
What does the kbin community think about having new user accounts subscribed to some set of default communities to get them started and show how the platform works? Rather than starting from ground 0, users can have ~20-30 communities and then add/remove from there. Similar to how Reddit has default subreddits or MySpace had...
So after a few days of lurking Kbin and trying to understand the marvelous world of the Fediverse, I've tried keep some mental notes of the struggles I've had and some spontaneous areas of improvement that I personally would like to see....
I completely get what you're saying and agree with a lot of it. Kbin isn't and shouldn't be Reddit but there is a certain amount of user interface tweaking and terminology clarification that needs to be done.
Checkout this link for a user script that helps to fix some of the inconveniences you listed while waiting for official fixes. It's not my script but works well for me.
Do you know there's a #fediverse alternative to Amazon-owned #Goodreads? #BookWyrm is a social network for tracking your reading, writing reviews, and discovering what to read next. You can follow and interact with users on different #BookWyrm instances and on #Mastodon. You can import from a Goodreads CSV export. You can create...
Same error for me. Another bug that I'm sure @ernest will squash in time. If you click "All magazines" in the top right you can still search for those. Obviously not as helpful as the full search but it's something.
I recently subscribed to pensandpaper@lemmy.ml on kbin.social. I was the first person to do that as it was clear that the kbin copy was created with me clicking subscribe. It's not a very active community with only two old posts but the only way to see those is by going to the original instance that it's hosted on....
I only speak English, and I virtually always only want to see English-language material, though ideally it'd be nice to still be able to follow links to articles in other languages....
I'm seeing the federated content, but it's hard to tell where the content came from. Currently, the only reliable way to see the source is by reading the URL when you're viewing a thread. It doesn't work well on mobile though and it doesn't work for the feed....
An interesting take that I hadn’t considered. I still wish I had the option to toggle on/off the original source for the user and the magazine/community.
Well said and exactly the thoughts I was having as a Kbin user who is still very new to all this.
How do I find all these communities (or magazines, etc) that are not on my own instance? Surely there is a way for the best communities to aggregate and rise to the top.
I was one of the co-founders of r/BisexualMen on Reddit and I write a series called Sex Ed for Bi Guys. I don't think there's a point in creating a minuscule magazine for us, but it'd be nice to be able to follow each other on here!
I don't know if there is a place for feature requests but I would really like a way to be signed into and swap between multiple accounts for different purposes.
Does anyone have any recommendations for 2 player games that aren't that competitive? I like to play games with my girlfriend but don't want anything that is going build animosity between us.
@TimoculousPrime I've never played Legacy with two people. They farthest I got was a four person game of Legacy for about 2 sessions and then the other couple moved half a country away. :(
It’s definitely an interesting concept but then you have to define what constitutes a “duplicated” community. Do they have to share the exact same name? What if they are functionally duplicates but have different names (fediverse v fedi-verse)? What would happen if “trees” on Kbin is about actually trees but on a Lemmy instance it’s about weed?
I don’t have answers just questions. But I do like the idea of being able to abstract the instance that a community/magazines lives on one step further and make the topic the important part.
What is your guys' experience with Lemmy and Kbin interaction
This post comes from Lemmy, so at least we know that part works lmao....
Just found a bee visiting my lavender plant.

Is there a way to populate an magazine with posts from before the first person on an instance subscribes to it?

Now that federation works, we need more clarity of source

Lemmy is a pretty cool platform. But I think we need to consider how to make cross-instance community federation more user friendly and accessible.
Hello, Lemmyverse. I'm posting from kbin and crossing my fingers it'll federate properly....

Managing Multiple Accounts
