unfortunately there aren't any truly great replacements for reddit yet. Lemmy is probably the closest. I am on kbin and it seems nice but also maybe like it's trying to do too much. Lemmy is simpler and limited to basically just reddit type functionality, while kbin is trying to do reddit + twitter + microblog +???
Really, we don't even need a full on reddit collapse to have success. What is needed is enough traffic for the fediverse so it can evolve and grow into something even better than reddit/twitter/etc are now. At least imo.
When reddit goes dark on Monday, there will be a horde of people looking for an alternative. When the APIs go dark at the end of the month, another horde will come. When /u/spez says just about anything, it'll happen again. What can we do to prep here for that? How can we attract good moderators to moderate communities here?...
Yeah I agree. kbin at least is still a bit clunky, haven't messed with lemmy yet. Also have been having performance issues. Not sure if people will stick around if they have major issues. Personally I think there's potential to have a revolutionary level of change, but reddit -> lemmy/kbin is not the same as digg -> reddit. Reddit was better than digg anyway. I can't honestly say that kbin is better than reddit at the moment.
I think the reddit migration might be the kick in the pants the fediverse needs to really get going. As a knock-on effect it will probably help mastodon and may get that fire going again. I hope it does, twitter sucks.
@austinphilp I was just about to recommend 7 wonders duel. IMO terraforming mars is better with 3+. There's also an agricola 2 player game out there somewhere.

Will Reddit ever cave in?
Exactly as the title says, do you guys think Reddit will buckle and at least be more reasonable or maybe even reverse their current decisions?...
How can lemmy handle 5k+ signups per hour on Monday?
