It bugs me when people say “the thing is is that” (if you listen for it, you’ll start hearing it… or maybe that’s something that people only do in my area.) (“What the thing is is that…” is fine. But “the thing is is that…” bugs me.)...
I have been thinking about trying online dating again. Not really looking forward to it because I expect it to be a mess.
I think I'll try a very minimalist approach on my profile because most people read profiles looking for reasons to reject. If I don't give many possible reasons to reject then I should increase the pool of people to date. In theory, anyway.
Thanks. I've done it before and you are correct, there are some real assholes out there. I might get better results if I pony up some cash for a site or service.
I was thinking along the lines of eharmony where (I think?) everyone pays to play. I understand the ploy you describe exists and I do want to avoid that shit.
American here. Just want to voice my support for this effort. Consumers are long overdue in striking back at companies making record profits from our necessities.
My politics don't conform to most parties or ideologies so I will almost always piss someone off. I look at most issues on their own and decide what makes the most sense to me. So I'm left on this and right on that but not part of any party.
Before this info about how unhealthy gas stoves are came out, I switched to an induction range. I really liked it then and still do now. Highly recommended.

Statcounter reports that Windows 11 continues to lose its market share for the second month in a row. Windows 10, meanwhile, is gaining more users and is now back above the 70% mark.
I think saying things like "just can't compete" is clickbait and not a very realistic perspective on the situation.
Electric motorcycles have advantages and disadvantages when compared to gas motorcycles. There are tradeoffs with either choice. Yes, electrics are cooler but you give up significant range. Electric are quiet but some want loud pipes to save their lives. And so on.
Framing the debate as in this headline encourages extremes and absolutes and screaming matches which I do not find helpful.
What linguistic constructions do you hate that no one else seems to mind?
