Hello. I am a single, middle aged man from midwestern United States. Pic is not me.

What if I told you "the cloud" is just someone else's computer.

guyrocket,
guyrocket avatar

Yes, I think many people think otherwise, even in tech. To many "the cloud" is some sort of magical, mystical place data can go. And companies selling cloud services perpetuate the myth.

This is a revelation to many people.

I have a few motion activated lights in my house and really love how convenient those are. One is an in wall light switch and another is a screw in one in a ceiling light socket.

I also use my pour over coffee set daily. And my coffee grinder.

I bought a cheap little wire cutter and keep it in my junk drawer. Great for cutting zip ties and twist ties on packaging.

I keep a water bottle in the fridge. Always have cold water and hardly use glasses. Bring it to the table when you eat.

Lazy Susan on the dining room table for salt, pepper, toothpicks, pencils, sticky notes, etc.

Long plastic dollar store shoehorn by the door.

I get big packs of 3M clean removal hooks from Costco and use them all over the house to hang keys, pants, hats, string lights, jackets, etc.

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services (www.theguardian.com)

*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...

Consumers are getting fucked. Media companies will continue to make it worse while trying to improve their bottom line. How long until it is all pay per view at sky high prices that only keep going up?

I try to own my media in physical form as much as possible. But I don't think it will be long until physical is not an available format. Or unaffordable, like vinyl is now.

We should have resisted and stopped the DMCA. We should stop all media being rental only. But we do not resist, we comply. We bend over and get fucked like the sheeple we are.

Until consumers take control of their government they will continue to take it up the ass from corporations. They count on you to comply.

I imagine the answer to this depends greatly on when a person became blind. I assume you're asking about people blind since birth, but that's not all blind people.

As someone who is aging. Late thirties. How can I keep my finger on the pulse of current trends, particularly in music?

As an example. I grew up in hip-hop but at a certain point I stopped listening to new people and realised recently that I’d slept on some bangers. Like Kendrick particularly, but even people like Juice WRLD and Xxxtentacion....

I would start reading Rolling Stone and similar stuff. The radio should also help.

Or are you looking specifically for only hip-hop?

Americans are choking on surging fast-food prices. "I can't justify the expense," one customer says (www.cbsnews.com)

Kevin Roberts remembers when he could get a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink from Five Guys for $10. But that was years ago. When the Virginia high school teacher recently visited the fast-food chain, the food alone without a beverage cost double that amount....

Title of post is wrong.

This is for a family of FOUR.

Thanks for fixing it.

ETA: Not fixed...?

I think the lines between ebike, escooter, and emotorcycle are pretty blurred right now.

The primary delineation should be speed. This bike path has an upper limit of 30 mph, this road has a lower limit of 45 mph no matter which 2 or more wheels you're on. And no wheels allowed on the pedestrian only sidewalk.

The tech and use has changed enough that governments should rethink this entire space, IMHO.

This was really interesting. Thanks for posting.

I think it could be improved a bit by adding 3D views of where each cut comes from. I think I mostly understand that, but I think 3D graphics would make understanding easier.

Mostly no.

We're going after the rails on a crazy train.

When viewed from an environmental perspective, these falling birth rates are GREAT news. More so in first world countries.

I'm about to install a reverse osmosis water filter because I want less PFOS (and other crap) in me. I understand this will also get rid of most of the fluoride.

I assume we'll be fine because we brush or use fluoride mouthwash daily. But I'd like to hear if anyone thinks otherwise. I'm not opposed to fluoride in water, just wondering how much downside there is to not having it in my water when we do use fluoride otherwise.

I also saw it in the theater. So tragic that it did so poorly in theatres.

Visually stunning. There are some amazing looking scenes, standout being the huge holographic woman.

Tragic storytelling. These poor goddamn replicants who are so close to human.

Fascinating characters both real and virtual.

Instant classic. Different from the original and both better and worse.

I own this on blue ray. Thanks for the reminder, I need to rewatch both of these awesome films.

How do you store your grounded coffee? (slrpnk.net)

Hiya, just quickly wondering how people store their coffee? Mine is in a tin box I got second hand, cos I thought it looked nice. Any rules regarding storing grounded coffee? I don’t store much at the time, it’s just if I grind a little too much and what not. I’m assuming the general thumb rule for this is to store it in a...

I think this is the correct answer. When I went back to drinking coffee again a few years ago I bought a cheap hand grinder from scamazon. When money was available I bought the electric grinder I have now. I still use the hand grinder when camping.

I keep my beans in the freezer. If I kept ground coffee around I'd keep it there too.

ETA: I think this is the hand grinder I have: https://www.amazon.com/PARACITY-Grinder-Stainless-Aeropress-Espresso/dp/B08QRL9Q4Q/ref=sr_1_16

I vote for the one with "more funs".

Don't we all need more funs?

I also do this. My tip is to leave it under the picnic table, with some of the plastic wrap if possible to help keep it dry.
