A little bit off topic, but back in the '90s in the Rocky Mountain states there was a whole sub-genre of dudes who were 50% park ranger and 50% John Denver impersonator. They had the hair and the glasses and they brought an acoustic guitar with them everywhere.

In the summer they were usually public-facing park rangers who could tell you facts about bats, aspen groves, or invasive beetles. If you asked them the obvious non-ecosystem question, the answer was always: "why yes, I did bring a guitar." In the off season they'd work in family-friendly music shows or at the bar at Holiday Inn Express by exit 347. It was a whole thing.

I think they were trying to impress women, but they just sort of creeped me out.

To be fair, that really only applies to the later volcanic upheavals that formed the Blue Ridge Mountains and not the Appalachian range as a whole. But I should leave that debate to be resolved between Mr. Denver (deceased) and u/[deleted]. I'm eager to read the continuing debate.

Hah, so one of the most popular posts on /r/badHistory had some caveats after all. That's really neat.

I didn't expect this post to get any traction and I was just running some experiments to see how kbin works as a reddit alternative, and specifically from a moderator point of view. And of course it pays to grab the magazine name before someone else snatches it up. I picked this one because it was the first popular post I could find with a deleted author.
