Considering the cost and long build times, I'm often apprehensive about nuclear development when solar and wind are so much faster and cheaper to build. That said, SMR's are a great choice for provinces who have minimal options for hydro-electricity. To which, this seems like a good move for Saskatchewan and will help in the long run.

The reality, though, is that to meet the 2035 deadline for a zero-carbon grid is going to require all of solar, wind, and SMR's. This is a good first step though, and helps guarantee that long-term goals will be met.
