So, based on this website, https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/industr/info.htm, they won't have a regulatory framework in place until late 2024. This means that Meta/Facebook, Google, etc. won't be able to bargain with news outlets until then. Hence, there is a really good chance that this news blockage will be in place for about a year or so.

Welcome to /m/CanadaPolitics!

Here are some community guidelines and rules. Please read them before submitting content.

These rules will change as the community grows. You'll see that there are "rules" and there are "guidelines." Rules will be enforced, while guidelines offer an etiquette for this community. If necessary, some guidelines may become rules in the future.

For now, enforcement will be relatively forgiving, except for rule 2, as I want to welcome users to this community. I hope this gives everyone a chance to learn the rules and get a 'feel' for the types of content that are desired in this community.

RULES

(1) Civility

Attack ideas, and not individuals (or groups). If you are to levy criticism towards another, do so respectfully. Ad hominem attacks are strictly forbidden.

(2) Hate Speech

Racism, sexism, anti-LGBTQ+, and other bigoted content and comments are not tolerated. There will be no warning—this is a bannable offense.

(3) Off-topic Content

All submissions should pertain to Canadian Politics. Egregiously off-topic content will be removed.

(4) Low-quality Content and Conspiracy Theories

Content that is heavy in misinformation will likely be removed. Articles or discussions that evaluate the veracity of misinformation or conspiracy theories and their effects on politics may be allowed at discretion of the moderator(s).

(5) Paywall Evasion

Do not post entire articles in the comments. Your comment will be removed. Short snippets or quotes from the article are acceptable.

GUIDELINES

(1) Starter Comment

If you found an article worthwhile to post, try to include a starter comment. Starter comments should aim to be substantive with the goal of fostering a discussion.

(2) Be Substantive

Comments should aim to contribute to the discussion. If your comment is merely a joke or one liner, it doesn't offer much for others to reflect on. This also applies to comments consisting of only emojis and internet acronyms/slang (lol, lmao, yolo). Jokes, emojis, acronyms aren't banned—but you should try to have more in your comment than just any one of these.

(3) Editorialization

Do not edit titles of articles. Do not misrepresent the article or content that you are posting. Do not misquote people or alter their words.
