Ok people, help me out… Why does get so much more love and/or press than ? 🤔

@JeremyMallin Garfield's comedic nuances tend to be more mainstream for the embracing cultural zeitgeist. He's also using the " eyes being the mirror if the soul " trick, so common to Disney and anime characters. Big eyes is instant appeal. He's also more dour than thuglife, which is lighter for comedy. It's a formula refinement thing.

Plus more deliberate marketing.

@Jason844 @JeremyMallin in fact Garfield is so meticulously designed his only real design change was from early version round eyes, to oval, so you can do more with the eyelids for a subtle increase in expression.

@Jason844 @JeremyMallin yes, and part of that is the design. Garfield is poster art ready, it's a more graphic and smarter form of design optimisation in draughtsmanship. He doesn't need toned colouring to describe three dimensions, he's really carefully weighted for descriptive form and composition, and Jon Davis standardised Garfields poses to suit multiple orientations and frames.

Alan Davis, who worked for 2000ad, Marvel and DC had a similar knack.
