“We are on strike because the president and the board of trustees have wreaked havoc on campus by disregarding academic procedures, refusing to negotiate in good faith with protestors as other presidents have done, calling and filming a massive police operation against the students and undermining faculty governance and autonomy of thought,” Jack Halberstam, professor of gender studies and English, said at the press conference.
