My search into the lost King's Field Mobile games.

King's Field is mostly known as the precursor to what ended up being the Dark Souls series. Featuring hard gameplay, unforgiving traps, weak weapons and an extremely hard difficulty and depressive setting. The KF games are also where the Moonlight Sword originates from. Personally, I love the series. I've beaten nearly all of the games except the PSP and the mobile ones.

There were three of them, only released through Japanese flip phone services. Dug a bit into 'Japanese cell-phone game preservation' and it's bad. I'm talking everything's encrypted, nobody has any copies, can't access the servers anymore, nobody has any videos, tyrannical copyright law in Japan and a serious lack of documentation from both western and eastern sources. It's bad.

To put it in perspective, I have looked into buying phones at random, contacting the devs, using proxies to pretend a Japanese location, contacted collectors, had them look, and more. And even then palying the games is a challenge. J-SKY emulation for example is non-existent. Nobody has made an emulator and nobody is currently making one.

I ended up writing an article, consolidating all my research. It's grim. There are a few other Japanese mobile games I'm looking for but I'm still organizing all my research for them.
