What did people think of Ghosts of the Deep?

It's been a bit of time. What are peoples overall thoughts about the new dungeon?

Disclaimer I only have two clears but I thought it was....mostly excellent really.

The past year has been really rough for me in terms of raid/dungeon content. Neither Spire of the Watcher or Root of Nightmares really hit for me for a variety of reasons. Went into Ghosts expecting it to be a trend that continued, but walked away super impressed.

The scale of it all was super impressive and I loved seeing a new style of environment delivered in the unique palette Destiny uses.

The mechanic itself was pretty simple, but the way they dressed it up worked pretty well.

...only real complaint about it that I have is that the first encounter drags a little bit. If it ended one cycle early it would feel a lot better IMO.

SacredTreeJack,

It would be nice to actually do it one day.

I love it. Super fun, gorgeous environment and storytelling. Helluva surprise at the end. Weapons all have solid rolls, yes even the glaive!

As other people said, the armor is gorgeous and shades very well (use Photo Finish on it if you have it), the opening encounter is a little too long, but that second encounter. I love how chaotic the boss room can get. Very tense at moments. My biggest complaint is the shields on the bosses have far too much health. Can immediately get broken with Arbalest mind you, but they're still kinda absurd. Final boss arena was 10/10. Audio logs for it were fantastic. Xivu Arath's VA killed it.

Roll_4Initiative,

The armor is easily my favorite set to come out in a long time. The dungeon itself is gorgeous, the environment team continues to utterly blow me away. The encounters feel really unique, if a little long, but that will go down as I get used to it. Overall, it might just be my favorite dungeon to date. Though going into Grasp of Avarice blind with friends and laughing at all the traps killing us will always hold a special place in my heart.

Aside from the opening encounter being ever so slightly too long, it's pretty good imo. Oh, and the final boss takes ages.

j7,

All the loot looks amazing, specially that armor. The dungeon also looks gorgeous. Lorewise i think it's pretty cool to see Oryx again and see what happened to him.

Yeah great point about the armor! Arguably the best looking set from a raid or a dungeon in...a good while, IMO. I know people went crazy for the cowboy hats from Spire but I found that to be a little kitschy personally.

Gets back to the entire "wear our enemies" thing. Good direction for them to find again IMO!

unkn0wn,

I absolutely love this dungeon. The asthetics, the lore, the encounter design are all top notch.

I may be slightly biased; King's Fall was my fist Destiny raid and seeing the boss arena for this dungeon I audibly gasped when I realized what I was looking at.

I haven't attempted a solo run yet, but that's the one thing I'm not really looking forward to. Echtar doesn't seem to bad to solo, but that last boss... so many moths and grabbing deepsight leaves you very exposed.

I'll be running it a lot more for fun, but also to get the exotic and I'm hunting a Cold Comfort with Envious Assassin and either Explosive Light or Bait and Switch.

Ayyy King's Fall was my first raid too. Still one of my favorites, that and Last Wish are the most "special" Destiny has felt to me. Was just a sick moment seeing that final boss arena. That and the big fish were both wow moments for me.

Yeah, forgot to talk about the loot but that really hits too. That Rocket is pretty power creep haha. Stasis Waveframe fills a hugely valuable niche too.

Agree with your thoughts about the solo. First boss seems like you can probably just bully with whatever. I mainly play Titan, so was thinking Bonk Titan/Tractor would work pretty there. Seems like it's a case of getting to damage phase and living.

Second though...yeah that's going to be pretty wild. I've seen some stuff about Chill Clip Fusions preventing it from moving during damage which could help some but then no Arby to pop the shield. Lot going on both getting to damage and once it's started there, seems very dangerous and the health bar is huge. At least with Spire, getting to damage was pretty free and then repeating it and dealing with the bloated health bar was the real challenge.

...but yeah, good luck on the solo dude! Let us know how it goes. I'll go for it one day, just too into Diablo right now. Need to collect all the badges on dungeon.report again hah.
