@britt it was my first FromSoft game. I died so many times to NPCs that weren’t even bosses. Haha. But I stuck with it. Sounds like you’ve go the right attitude/approach.
I am going to give advice though; if a boss/ area is too hard, leave it and come back when you’ve levelled up. & at the beginning of the game you can do that by going south.
