Really glad I wore pads & a helmet. No injuries. But confidence knocked.

I can drop-in!

I did it on my own!

I’m elated! What a rush! 🛹🛹🛹

Took months of building up the courage to do it on my own & not hold someone’s hands.

But today I overcame my fears & did it by myself.

Three or four foot mini ramp.

Damn. Guess I’m on my way to being a skater now? I feel closer.

Okay, I’m experiencing my first autumn as a #skateboarder 🛹🛹🛹

Weather 🌧️& work have meant I haven’t had a #skate for a month 😳

It’s been a real shock to the system. I’m climbing the walls here. I feel like a dog that hasn’t been let out on a run for a long time. I’ve also found myself worrying I’ll lose the gains I’ve made, both skill wise & psychologically in conquering some of my fears.

I absolutely love autumn & winter. I love cold weather. But…but….aaaaggggghhhhh!

I can now do some consistent stationary micro ollies, like 5-10cm high. This is huge progress for me.

If I can get drop-ins & ollies sown up this year I’ll be over the moon.

Went down the #skatepark & tried to get the sun to dry it out. But the sun seemed a bit distant.

I sat in a dry patch on the concrete & stared at the sky.

Autumn, grant me some days for my happiness, please 🙏.

Bad weather has meant no #skateboardng recently. I’ve been climbing the walls.

However, a break in the rain today meant I could go to a local mini ramp at lunch time & practice dropping in. Total bliss.

I’m like a dog, I need regularly exercised to be happy. Preferably with a bit of fear & adrenaline thrown in for good measure.

You are never too big or too old to have someone hold your hand.

Today, I finally dropped-in for the first time! A real one! On a concrete quarter pipe.

I did not die.

It took about 30 attempts, while I, a full grown adult, held onto the outstretched hands of another grown adult. A friend of mine. Gripping for dear life.

Until I wasn't holding hands anymore.

#Skateboarding is pretty humbling.

Find the people who want to help you. They are real friends & teachers. Let them hold your hand.

Attempted my first drop-ins today! I did not die.

Attempted about 5 in a row. About 1 meter high. I had a friend hold my hands. Bailed on each of them because I didn’t land the front trucks.

I think I know what I’m doing wrong. I’m not shifting enough weight off my back foot. I know it’s obvious. I’m pushing my front trucks down but not shifting my weight to them enough.

I’m pleased I didn’t freeze with fear, though. I just went for it. Progress.

Took a slam to the concrete today.

Carved & pumped over a hip & the skateboard completely stopped moving under me. Flew forward & slammed against another bank. Found myself staring at the sky. Happened so quickly.

Took a nice slice of skin off my knee because I wasn’t wearing knee pads today. Landed on my already sprained wrist.

A stone had wedged under my wheel & stopped the board dead.

Funny thing is though, the adrenaline from the slam was kind of fun.

I'm looking for an open source project to contribute to. It's essential it has a friendly community. #Scala or #Java, so that rules out Mastodon.

I'm going to check out Apache Pulsar https://github.com/apache/pulsar

Any suggestions for projects would be very welcome. Also, any general tips on contributing to OSS are welcome too.

I thought one way in would be to contribute something simple like increasing unit test coverage - if I happen to spot something missing.

So far I've played #EldenRing for 4 hours and I haven't beaten a single boss, I have no runes because I keep dying, and I'm basically about as terrible as anyone could be at the game.

But I knew I'd be terrible at it.
The repeated deaths don't make me mad.
I'm just chillin'.

Did I know there was no difficulty accessibility setting? yes. I bought it anyway.

I don't need tips, btw. Just talking into the video game void.
