SuzanneR70,
Rasta,

@SuzanneR70 I don't think those will be affordable housing

NovaNaturalist,

@Rasta @SuzanneR70 also, "80% of market rate for 15 years" is unaffordable from day 1, but creates a bigger nightmare in 15 years time.

Rasta,

@NovaNaturalist @SuzanneR70 There is no development in the city, that I could afford to live in, in spite of retiring debt free. The cost of an apartment is outside the reach of pensions

NovaNaturalist,

@Rasta @SuzanneR70 I really don't think Tim Houston and his chums have any idea of the scale of the problem, nor what will actually solve this crisis. Developers given $$$ and carte blanche to build some homes for profit is no solution.

This is a problem.

It requires massive wealth redistribution, which can be invested in low cost state or housing coop owned social housing.

Rasta,

@NovaNaturalist @SuzanneR70 It requires Government to fund and own low rental accomodations, There's no developer that's interested in building no profit buildings

NovaNaturalist,

@Rasta @SuzanneR70 there never has been. Historically, all a free market has ever provides on social housing are slums, squats, Dickensian rookeries, and bulldozers for the wealthy to help evict their fellow human.

Rasta,

@NovaNaturalist @SuzanneR70 I remember Africville, Left in the worst conditions in the city, and never had city services. They were poor and ignored, and pushed out when the New Bridge was planned. There were poor areas with ignored people downtown too, near Scotia Square moved out for classier development
