Two days in a row it has taken me all 6 guesses. I have a periodic bias, I guess.
This puzzle brings to mind my 2nd semester Organic Chemistry professor. We used to call him "The Machine." He began his lectures at precisely the same time every day. As he wrote on the chalkboard, you could see the faint outline of the previously erased equations and molecular diagrams. His new chalk marks went into the exact same locations on the board as he spoke in his monotone, expressionless voice. If you went up to ask him a question after class, he would answer in the same words he had used in his lecture.
I honestly believe that "The Machine" would have failed the Turing test when pitted against ChatGPT or Bard. At the end of his last lecture of the semester, "The Machine" finished 5 minutes early. He didn't know what to do, so he fell silent and just stood there until the bell rang and we left.
