OK, after a couple of days of reflection, I've decided I need to leave the Fediverse.

I came here for a community of free thinkers trying to redefine social media.

And then the powers that be decided that a company that has influenced elections in favor of Trump and Brexit is a good addition.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Facebook#Influence_on_elections

I could block them, but they'd still be here. That's not acceptable to me.

Sometimes doing the right thing isn't fun, but I need to stand by my beliefs and values.

Goodbye.

There appears to be a huge influx of spammers this morning, coming mostly from mastodon.social. I had three separate ones DM me. Please continue to report and I will knock them down as I become aware of them.

Thanks, and Beige-bless :bb:

>Fact of the matter is, shit's public on the fedi, we have no right to say who is and isn't welcome, and it would be problematic

That's basically saying you will never defederate from any instance, and we all know that defederation is used without being problematic.

There's also more then privacy when discussing Meta.

-Union busting
-Influencing elections in favor of Brexit and Trump
-Censorship
-Fighting to block anti-trust legislation
-Tax dodging

This is an evil megacorporation.

How many fediverse users came here for the express purpose of escaping corporate-run internet? Many if not most.

Is it OK if Exxon wants to join up?

How about Elon following Meta and bringing X to the fediverse?

Is that OK?

They are being invited to interact on our server, and they don't belong here.

Meta has tolerated anti-LGBTQ content, shadowbanned pro-Palestinian commentators, and influenced elections in a whole list of countries.

Instances allowing Threads are journeying into grey territory.
This is not just about privacy.

Hawkmoon,
@Hawkmoon@mastodon.social avatar

@Virginicus

Defederated at instance level=They can go have fun interacting with the other instances that have been kicked out of the fedi community

Blocking users or the instance by yourself=We're hunky dory as a decentralized group of communities with welcoming a massive, corrupt centralized money-worshipping scumbag that is not here to be part of a decentralized online community.

I came here because this was advertised as a platform unlike those other places.

Now that's being compromised

Hawkmoon,
@Hawkmoon@mastodon.social avatar

@Virginicus

Meta is most definitely affected by whether they get to hang with a small group of neo-nazis or the majority of this 'decentralized' community.

Hi,

There are comments on this post about mastodon.social users not having an limits to interactions with Threads.

Can you weigh in on that?

Totally understand that choice. If you stay on mastodon.social, you'll likely have to do that via an individual domain block, as they have no plans to either limit or suspend all of Threads, as far as I know.

I think you're right, and I think there may also be Russian interference via fake accounts and possibly with the elections themselves.

In the US, the GOP is not trying to win over the middle. They're going hard full right. That's not normal.

If for whatever reason you never wish to interact with , you can personally block it for your account. This hides all posts and profiles from Threads, prevents anyone from Threads from following you, and stops your posts from being delivered to or fetched by Threads. Simply click the "Block domain threads.net" option on any Threads profile or post you see in Mastodon.

Let me ask this a different way:

If you run an instance how do you determine what instances to block or mute? Do you maintain a list internally, or do you rely on a feed from someone else? Both?

What are your most reliable sources? Are those sources transparent with how or why instances end up on their lists?

(Yes, I know about TBS and they have a lot of decent intel. I'm still reviewing them. I would like additional options. Do not make this a TBS thread, please.)

Hawkmoon,
@Hawkmoon@mastodon.social avatar

@julie

So you find the list of mastodon instances:

https://instances.social/list#lang=&allowed=&prohibited=&min-users=&max-users=

Then choose your preferences and you get a list:

https://instances.social/list/advanced#lang=&allowed=&prohibited=advertising&min-users=&max-users=

Then you can click on an instance to go visit it.

On the main page, look in the sidebar for a button that says 'learn more'.

On the new page, scroll down to 'moderated servers' after server rules.

When you open that, you can see a list of servers they have defederated from. It depends on the instance whether they include a reason.

The longest road in the world to walk, is from Cape Town (South Africa) to Magadan (Russia). No need for planes or boats, there are bridges. It's a 22,387 kilometers (13911 miles) and it takes 4,492 hours to travel. It would be 187 days walking nonstop, or 561 days walking 8 hours a day. Along the route, you pass through 17 countries, six time zones and all seasons of the year.

Hawkmoon,
@Hawkmoon@mastodon.social avatar

@majordopolis

Along similar lines, I think the longest rail route is from Singapore to Scotland.

Hawkmoon,
@Hawkmoon@mastodon.social avatar

@energisch_ @majordopolis
