Even if a driver is at a complete stop at a red light, it would still be illegal to hold and use a cellphone.
I am pretty good about keeping it in my pocket while driving but this one might get me.
However police are not allowed to search a driver solely because of this violation.
Everyone should be aware of this. I want a reduction in bad driving due to phone usage, but it’s hard not to see the opportunity for law enforcement abuse.
Yeah, I have used the red light to check on my phone before. In some cases, I could have used voice commands/recognition or navigated with the car display controls. In the other cases, I will have to wait or park.
To be found guilty of a hate crime under this bill, the perpetrator would have to intimidate someone in a way that is “malicious” and “intentional.” To be considered intimidation, the act would have to involve “repeated or continued harassment” of another person in a way that is not already protected under the Constitution, and “would cause a reasonable individual to feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened.”
This was always going to happen once Republicans started openly supporting full on fascism. They must always have an out group to blame and attack and in the absence of one, they turn on each other.
Wish they’d just all implode and leave the rest of us alone.
