Overall an amazing Women's World Cup. Think about all of the countries who achieved great things: #Jamaica, #Morocco, #Nigeria, #Colombia, and others who proved just how much progress the women's game has made globally in the last several years. This has been probably the most competitive women's tournament that has ever taken place.
The next World Cup will be in 2027, and I have no doubt the game will be elevated even higher still.
@TiffyBelle@wwc I agree, still, I wonder why it has taken so long with #football, in other sports women have been treated much more equal to men since much longer, or, their presence was accepted much longer ago
@asep@TiffyBelle@wwc partly due to women's football being banned by many federations until the 1970's. Once the ban was lifted, it took a long time before sufficient resources were allocated to women's football. Even now, few countries have fully professional women's leagues.
@kittyamericana@TiffyBelle@wwc Well, if you do not count wages among them, it has been much more "accepted" by society (here where I live) if we played tennis or did swimming or athletics or so, than football.
@asep@TiffyBelle@wwc ah, I see. yeah, growing up in the united states we girls even played american football in gym class occasionally. it would have been an uphill battle for a girl who wanted to play on the boys' team though...
