“Israeli northern city Haifa has long been touted as an Arab-Jewish mixed city. But tours following the lives of Palestinians living there before the establishment of Israel tell a more detailed reality.” Of 70,000 Palestinians, only 4,000 remained. Palestinians were expelled and someone else would just take over their houses and their belongings. Just like that….

A long fascinating article from Haaretz. @palestine

“Land without a people” is such an insane lie. How does a mixed society that existed before mesh with that narrative and the idea of eternal hatred?

The folks from Europe imported evil.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @palestine The rise of nationalism in Europe was the trigger. Making of a “nation” out of different people was never a peaceful process. The process was particularly violent when nations were created based on the myths of racial or ethnic uniqueness & superiority (Germany, the Balkans, etc.) With all the talk about globalization, we are still stuck in the nationalist stage of history and voices that scream “us vs them” are getting louder.

"A land without a people for a people without a land" is a widely cited phrase associated with the movement to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine during the 19th and 20th centuries. Its historicity and significance are a matter of contention.

They could have gone to certain parts of Montana or Wyoming instead if they wanted a land with a low or zero population density

The movement had considered locations in South America and parts of what is now Kenya, but rejected them over a lack of infrastructure.

immibis,

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @shortstories @LiefhebberV @JapanProf @palestine source on that? Pretty damning if true!

Because Jews are too lazy to build their own infrastructure even if given food, water and building materials until it is done but need someone else to do the work for them
