Welcome to the 17th Pluralistic linkdump, a collection of all the miscellany that didn't make it into the week's newsletter, cunningly wrought together in a single edition that ranges from the first ISP to AI nonsense to labor organizing victories to the obituary of a brilliant scientist you should know a lot more about! Here's the other 16 dumps:

Using Amazon, or Twitter, or Facebook, or Google, or Doordash, or Uber doesn't make you lazy. Platform capitalism isn't enshittifying because you made the wrong shopping choices.

Hey @ploum
Hey @pluralistic
Just a thought.

As we talk about enshittification, we should also talk about shiternet.

WTH, @pluralistic !

Didn’t you write Beezle early(ish) in the pandemic? You saw the enshittification that is the SPAC even then?

Oh. Right. Trump’s SPAC adventures started publicly in October 2021. Damn. (I’ll read what he’s reading.)

Here's a silver lining to global monopoly capitalism: it means we're all fighting the same enemy, who is using the same tactics everywhere. The same coordination tools that allow corporations to extend their tendrils to every corner of the Earth allows regulators and labor organizers to coordinate their resistance.

After reading Chokepoint Capitalism, Red Team Blues, and The Bezzle, I went to the library and found Attack Surface there. So that's my next read. :)

Hopefully you have dozens more books published I can go through, because they're all so interesting.

Your periodic reminder that if you:

a) Dislike long threads and;

b) Follow someone who routinely posts long threads;

that is a YOU problem, which you can solve by unfollowing, and, if need be, blocking that user so they don't show up in your federated timeline.

Bros always assume you think Crypto and NFT's are a scam, because you don't know how they work. My brother in Christ, I think it's a scam, because I do know how it works.

@RickiTarr

When I was a baby internet user, I'd argue with Scientologists. They'd accuse me of not understanding, then, when I made it clear I understood, they'd accuse me of being paid to criticize them.

Years later, I got the same treatment from crypto weirdos, and, lately, AI weirdos.
