Rules for the community

1. Keep it friendly and polite

This is a place for us to help each with great advice and friendly chat. You should feel safe to ask a question, even if you think it might be a silly one.

We can disagree while being respectful. We can make a point without condescension.

2. No intolerance, discrimination, or bigotry

This follows on from Rule 1. This is a place for people to feel safe and to be themselves, regardless of religion, gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. All are welcome.

3. No person-to-person sales

On other sites, there have been instances of members scamming others with false listings for difficult-to-obtain devices. This blanket rule is here to prevent such scams.

In future, it may be relaxed for those who want to post links to listings on other sites that offer buyer protection (such as eBay). Suggestions in the comments are welcome.

4. No links to ROMs or ROM-sites

In order to protect kbin and Lemmy from potential litigation, links to ROMs or ROM-sites are not permitted. Neither can ROM-sites be named.

You can post about your experience (good or bad) with a ROM or ROM-set. You may name the ROM-set. You may let people know that they can do a web search for "[NAME OF ROM-SET]". You may not name the web site to which that web search will lead.

The Ultimate Miyoo Mini ARCADE guide (Onion OS) (on Reddit) is a good example of the right balance.

The purpose of this rule is to protect the long-term viability of kbin, Lemmy, and this community.
