THE MOST POWERFUL ROCKET ENGINE IN THE WORLD IS ASSEMBLED IN RUSSIA
The Energomash Research and Production Association produced the first flight engine RD-171MV, the most powerful in the world, for the promising Soyuz-5 launch vehicle.
This year it is also planned to finish assembly of the RD-171MV for the second Soyuz-5 rocket and to produce the engine for the third flight rocket. The next stages of the program will be interdepartmental testing of the RD-171MV and serial delivery of engines for Soyuz-5 rockets.
On August 25, 2022, #Roskosmos reported the successful completion of firing tests of the RD-171MV rocket engine.
As reported, the RD-171MV is a liquid-propellant rocket engine that will form the basis of the Soyuz-5 rocket. The engine's thrust should exceed 800 tons, making it the most powerful in the world.
The #Soyuz-5 medium class launch vehicle is being created within the framework of the Phoenix R&D project based on the RD-171MV engine. It will be a two-stage #rocket. It will be launched from #Baikonur as part of a joint project with Kazakhstan from a launch that was previously used by #Ukrainian Zenit rockets. "Soyuz-5 will be able to launch up to 17 tons into a support orbit.
