The only mod from the instance on lemmy.ml deleted his account. So I guess they won’t be any moderation over there which is not good. And no one is on lemmy.world, and it’s already being spammed. We should push people to join the instance on kbin.
Plus lemmy.world is pretty unusable as it seems to be huged to death. I know it is slow over here too but on lemmy.world it's just not working anymore. At least for me.
The most recent refugee wave are Ukrainians and supporting their war efforts would probably help a faster return. Bad luck though cause the SVP is very neutraland doesn't want to make Putin angry.
In general it might be a more feasible way to help those people in their countries instead of trying to keep them out...
Yeah I agree with you about the trying to help them in their own country, but how?
What can we do to help Ukraine? How do we help all those economical refugees from Africa?
There is no short term solution so meanwhile we might as well accept them here. Where the population is slowly dying and where we need hands to do the dirty work that no Swiss born want to do.
At least for Ukraine we could allow re-exports of weapons, as many parties wanted.
For Africa and other regions we could - depending on the situation - help with food deliveries, etc. Or we could try to support the local economies.
But you are right that we can't help everyone in their countries of origin and should welcome them in Switzerland. Welcoming them in Switzerland should include help for integration though.
E.g Language courses, chances to work, informations about the culture in Switzerland, maybe something like a godparent or friend from Switzerland.
In schools there should be special classses for the refugees at the beginning to learn the language or a lot of support (not just a few lessons as it sometimes the case).
Sadly those things are not possible if the biggest party is just refusing those people and not helping at all (which in my opinion is a strategy to make refugees look worse).
You’re saying that as if we weren’t already on 68% hydro power. The 19% nuclear will probably go down since we’re not building any new plants, but I’m sure renewables will be able to fill the gap.
Nuclear isn't sustainable, especially not new reactors. They are too expensive in comparison to solar and wind. I think it is better to just help the population to install solar panels and batteries, which would actually help the regular person instead of a corporation.
Well, they only allow posts directly related about Switzerland, not about reddit or the blackout or whatever else. It's in their rules, I've also tried to campaign for people to move to the fediverse but most of my posts have been deleted as they are relative to internal reddit bullshit and not Switzerland itself, which I guess is fair.
I appreciate all your work and what you do to make this community take off but just so you know, the new background does not work very well if you have "dark mode" enabled. All the text is white and when you scroll it over a white part of the background you can barely read it.
