To all the people designing user interfaces: if you have a select dialog of some sort that only has one option to choose from: think of replacing that useless dialog with a five second notification popup for information.

@publicvoit Which is great if the user happens to be distracted for the 5 seconds.

Or for whatever reason does not manage to read the text in 5 seconds. (Think: how cool cut off texts are where you need to use UI tricks to enlarge the window somehow to get the complete text, or scroll it somehow. Or puzzle out the meaning. Two common reasons: Translations to more verbose languages, and yes, older users who have used UI preferences to scale up text fonts.)

@publicvoit Now if the notice is without relevance, the notice might be nicer because you might avoid the popular "popup too big for phone screen to dismiss" game I play on my mobile, which can be annoying.

If it contains critical important information, OTOH it can be rather irritating.

@yacc143 Good arguments.

However, I'm pretty annoyed about many of those useless dialogs I where I need to open a drop-down with the same old single item for mandatory selection and I'd rather not have to spend effort with this.

Maybe add a switch in the settings to enable and disable that? 🤔
