Macro light done.

Made a mount for it that hangs back and aside, so it can double as handle, the camera can stand up straight on it and the access door for the USB connector of the camera isn't blocked.

It took ages to figure out a position which enabled all of the above, but then that's why you make your own kit.

Works pretty well and happy with the result. Satisfying amount of salvaged parts, too.

Mirror selfie of the macro light installed on the red camera. My right hand grasps the camera as normal, the left hand the black case, which is now mounted vertically and off to the side of the camera, acting as second handle. The ring LED is installed on the lens and lit up brightly, partially reflecting in the mirror and back onto the lens.
A random tiny dead insect that happened to be readily laying on the window sill today. It's less than 2mm long, laying on its back and clasping its legs in death. It looks like a tiny fly.
