CinePI is an open hardware/software project aiming to create a cheap cinema camera that uses a Raspberry Pi at its core.

Here's a stunning demonstration of what images can be captured with CinePi.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la9qsRzG12A

They are also looking for software developers :)

@br00t4c They're just so proud of the good work they're doing that they don't want the media to steal their thunder by revealing all the surprises early, right?

Or are they actively concealing war crimes?

Seems like it's probably one or the other of those things.

Tip of the day: is a good place to keep your literature, because you can add a lot of bibliographic data as metadata. One source for such data is Crossref, and with a script you can easily import metadata from there to . Here is how that works. https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20230711-metadata-crossref

Macro light done.

Made a mount for it that hangs back and aside, so it can double as handle, the camera can stand up straight on it and the access door for the USB connector of the camera isn't blocked.

It took ages to figure out a position which enabled all of the above, but then that's why you make your own kit.

Works pretty well and happy with the result. Satisfying amount of salvaged parts, too.

Mirror selfie of the macro light installed on the red camera. My right hand grasps the camera as normal, the left hand the black case, which is now mounted vertically and off to the side of the camera, acting as second handle. The ring LED is installed on the lens and lit up brightly, partially reflecting in the mirror and back onto the lens.
A random tiny dead insect that happened to be readily laying on the window sill today. It's less than 2mm long, laying on its back and clasping its legs in death. It looks like a tiny fly.

Let's talk briefly about what a tire-fire is and why you shouldn't buy from them.

But then they started spamming me.

In February 2024 I asked them to delete my account (created only to order the COVID tests).
They just spammed me again.
When I click the unsub link, the page it takes me to claims I'm already unsubscribed.
In addition to all this you're probably aware they've had numerous security and privacy issues with their products.
You really, really shouldn't patronize this company.

This is horrifying; an insult to humanity.

And besides, if you want to automate making burgers and fries, you would redesign the entire kitchen around a simpler system of automation, not create a gigantic ceiling-mounted robot arm that manipulates implements meant for human use.

Picked up this "AI" camera for $15. I'm going to see if I can integrate it into my existing Zonemimder setup (if there's a video stream I should be able to do something). Of course, only after I connect it to an airgapped laptop so I can see what weird URLs it's trying to connect to. Also, it seems to require an app, but I'm hoping I can get around that.

The illustration on the back is top notch!

A blue and white security camera box. The back of the box details a highly idealized scenario where the camera identifies an intruder in a pitch black room, sounds an alarm and activates some lights, and in doing so scares the intruder away. The camera then suggests checking the recorded video and calling the police for assistance (the least believable aspect of this scenario, as law enforcement does not exist to help people).
