@Uair @actuallyautistic Thank god I never got ABA because as a child, I refused to go to any therapy, nor have a therapist go to my house and invade my space. I didn’t know why I was like that, but maybe it’s because I was not well emotionally at the time, and I didn’t want anyone else to bother me. All I wanted is to just do fun things like watch cartoons.

What will happen when this actually sinks in, yet so many school districts pay for ABA specialists?

Possibly nothing at all. It wouldn't be the first time people had tacitly agreed to keep doing something useless because changing would be an admission that they'd been wrong. And it wouldn't be the first time people had profited from selling snake oil.

Yeah, it's not as though psych as a profession has a great track record of saying, "You know what? We were wrong. In fact, my entire career has been based on nothing more than some white academic guy making stuff up out of thin air and ego."

Psychaitrists aren't real doctors. They're preachers with a medical degree. Real doctors use imaging. They don't simply throw drugs at the problem until they've convinced themselves they've done the best they could.

The mind is still pretty much a black box. We don't have sufficient capability to look inside one while it's working yet. We're getting there, but it looks like the techbros will get it through silicon before the biologists.

I read about a guy in cali who only worked with patients deemed hopeless by five other psychaitrists. He'd MRI them, add a pill, and MRI them again. Had a 90% success rate, and he considers prescribing psychotropic medication without imaging to be malpractice. Myself, having spent ten years exploring every piece of shit pill hot off big pharma's assembly line, i'm inclined to agree with him.
