We’ve had three World Series appearances in my nearly 50 years. We’ve won zero, losing the last two in extra innings in Game 7.
In my first 20 years, we had three winning seasons. Total. None of which were even close to playoff contention. We also had three seasons with 100+ losses in that same time span.
The team would regularly send players to other teams for cash so we could make payroll.
@kevingamin@baseball I mean ok. But nobody in pro sports has lost more than the Phillies ... that's a fact .... and they've won 1 WS in my nearly 50 years.
@Ashley@BeisbolCards@kevingamin@baseball I mean it counts for the team (ok, they have 2 wins in 140 years) .... but I didn't personally watch it so what do I care?
@Ashley@RVLara23@BeisbolCards@baseball It was worse in 97, because Cleveland had the 2-1 lead in the 9th of Game 7, but Jose Mesa just choked and gave up the tying run. Two innings later and Herb Score retires from the radio broadcast booth without calling a World Series championship in his decades behind the mic.
@kevingamin@Ashley@BeisbolCards@baseball there have been so so so many years I haven't even watched post season baseball (bc, Phillies) so I don't even remember that.
In my 42 years watching the Padres, I've seen ten 90-loss seasons, win one world series game and have them post the second worst all time W-L record (thanks, Marlins)
