Are there any organizations to sponsor a family in Canada (microfinance for Canadians, not immigration)

There are organizations like Save a Family Plan where you can sponsor a family who is living in poverty overseas and help give them funds for education etc. Are there any organizations like this for Canadian families? I tried searching online but it kept showing results for how to sponsor one’s family to come to Canada (like to immigrate). Thanks.

I’m aware of the perils of microcredit so i’d rather not get involved with something where the person might have extortionate interest rates or there’s a loan to be paid, i am talking about microfinance where there is money directly given to the family in need and it is used to help make the family self sufficient.

There are lots of organizations that do various types of work for new Canadians.

Try this to find one in your area: www.canadahelps.org/en/explore/…/new-to-canada/

I personally know of MOSAIC in Vancouver that helps immigrants, refugees and other people new to Canada with navigating the quirks of coming here. That includes helping people find work and learn English, among many other things.

Many organizations are faith-based, but I haven’t really explored that. I do know many of them don’t care what the faith the people they are helping follow.

On a more general note, organizations like the Red Cross will often step in to help refugees, though usually only for a very short (emergency) time.

Good luck, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I might be able to help.

hi, thanks for the response. I am looking more to help Canadian families like those in rural areas or those suffering from child poverty; i am not referring to new immigrants/refugees.

For example, there are programs where you can sponsor a child in a developing country; i am looking for programs where children/families in canada can be sponsored to alleviate poverty.

Oh damn, I totally read your question wrong. I don’t know why looking back at it, but I thought you had asked for helping people specifically once they were here instead of before they got here. Sorry!
