If nobody is following me, which is true at the moment, does boosting do anything?
If I understand correctly, it doesn't have anything to do with voting-like functionality to gauge popularity but an equivalent of retweeting. This means, if no one is following me, there's no reason for me to boost anything. Am I right?
Boosting has several effects, or rather, each site performs a different action when a user boosts something.
In mastodon, boosting equals a retweet.
Here in kbin, boosting an article will push it closer to the frontpage of their respective magazine, boosting a comment will push it to the top of the comment section. So your boost will ahve an effect even if you have no followers.
There's more to it, but that's what i understand so far.
